Memory cards and lens

Hi all
Have just purchased a Nikon D90 with a 18-105 VR lens. Previously had a canon, well still got 10d with alot of equipment (that will be for sale if anyone interested).
I have 2 and half weeks before I go to italy for 2 weeks and need to get some memory cards and a lens. I have been told not olto touch Transcend sdhc cards? I need advice please on which?? Sandisk or transcend? Also class 6 or class 10?
Also lens? Do I get a 55-300 VR or a 70-300 VR?
Can anyone please point i'n the right direction??

If you can stretch to it, the 70-300VR is a stellar lens. Better build quality than the 55-300 and pretty damn good across the range. Thats not to say the 55-300 is bad, cos its actually pretty good, but the 70-300 is one o Nikons best non-'pro' lenses.
As to the cards, I have both an 8gb Transcend Class 6 and a couple of the Sandisk Extreme III cards...had no problems with either and they are plenty fast enough at class 6. Not actually sure any camera will use a class 10 to its full capability.

Thanks Neil. The class10 cards arnt much more expensive i'n fact about the same price. Ive just hear people keep saying about transcend cards losing photos and corrupt so I didn't want that on my honeymoon. Also I want the 70-300 lens. I'm just new to Nikon. Think on my honeymoon will just shoot i'n auto on jpeg at full size and quality.
 
Me again. Just found some Sandisk hd video sdhc 8gb cards. Class 6 20mb/sec. Will these be ok for my D90? Also would they be ok i'n my Sony high def camcorder? All new ish to me.

Yep, will work fine in the D90....as to your camcorder, so long as it accepts SDHC cards, it'll be fine.

If you don't want to spend too much dosh you could always look at the non vr 70-300 nikon for about 50 notes secondhand
 
Thanks for that Neil, and yeah camcorder is sdhc cards.
Also Tim I had looked at those. I just would like to have a VR lens from the start. Hopefully can afford it.

Optically speaking, the VR is superior to either of the non VR versions so is the one to go for, definitely.
