Hi Guys,

sorry for another thread but another question, i have bought a canon eos 500d and i'm in need of a memory card can anyone recommend me one please and where lol

So memory cards, there's loads out there.

Depends really on your budget and purpose.

I commented on your previous thread and took note that your interested in sports, etc. In this case, you'll be wanting to take lots of photos continously without waiting on the camera to save them.

So what you should be looking for is a card which has a good data writing speed.

I have 2x Sandisk Ultra II CF Cards, which hold 4GB of photos each ( about 441 raw ) ( 1000 JPEG ) with a write speed of 15mb/s. On JPEG, ( which you'd use for sports ) i can shoot over 40 shots continously with that write speed.

2 of these cards would set you back around £25. CF Cards ( compact flash ) can sometimes bust half way through an event so having a spare is always a good idea. And if your shooting a large number of raws you'll need the extra space. Alternatively go for something with a bigger capacity but since your starting out i'd recommend you get 2 of what i mentioned ;)

But Tbh I am not the best at spelling and I would really find it offensive if someone took the ****** out of something I could not do properly.

THere is a difference between taking the mick and having an unharmful joke and being informative... :thinking:

But some people don't take things like that as a joke. I am really bad at spelling and if I was not on my phone using predictive text most of my spelling would be wrong and sometimes I have to ask my Mrs for spellings. If someone made a joke about my spelling I would loose my head as I find that really pushes me over the edge and gets me, now I'm sure I'm not the only person that it gets to.

What you find a joke others fine offensive!

Your taking this a little far now. Some may see what i said " for the record - brought = bought " as a joke, some may see it informative.

I posted on the other thread where it was spelt the same so i don't see what's exactly wrong with giving him the heads up on this one?

ANyway, can we get back on topic and help him out with the cards here?
 
If you want the best it would be Sandisk but not at a stupidly cheap price. Avoid Ebay/Amazon.

I got 2x Ultra II CF's from amazon. £13 each. 100% genuine absolutely no issue what so ever.

Don't be afraid of amazon and ebay, just be careful. Read reviews and feedback.
 
This is a little misleading as the op has a 500D, this will be taking SD cards and not CF cards, so rather than worry about spelling, give the proper information the op asked for.:bonk:
I would be looking at getting an SD cards at class 10, and 8Gb, you will be looking at max of £10 from Amazon, inc delivery. Transcend Secure Digital Card SDHC Class 10 - 8GB £9.50 on amazon

haha dont worry bout my spelling as i know its rubbish and i dont care lol i cant help it but if u wont to tell me the right way please do haha.

okey guys thanks for everyone commentin and helping, with a Sd card when you say class 10 is this something to do with speed etc etc, also does it matter what size memory card you use as i normally just get a biggish one so that i never run out lol, with the camera i ahve now which is a samsung wb500 i have a SanDisk Sdhc card and its a 16gb and it has a little 2 in a circle around it is tht the class.

The card shown is a class 10 card and should be fine, I have used transcend cards albeit CF without and issue :)

Anyway, lesson over. Memory cards. Sandisk or own brand cards fro Play.com are pretty well priced and reliable. Always some deals on.
 
I'd be very wary of getting too big a memory card, yes you may not fill it very often, but it is a lot of images to lose in one go should the worst happen, either a corrupted, damaged or lost card. If you do a lot of video then you'll probably need a big card.

Sandisk and Lexar are considered the best.

7Dayshop and MyMemory are normally pretty good for prices. As are Amazon.

If going for Sandisk, Camerapricebuster keeps an eye on their prices.

+1 for play.com

I bought a 16gb class 10 for less than £14, own label, and it works a treat despite the extensive hammering it's had. Even comes with a 5 year warranty.

I would prefer a nice Sandisk but they are substantially more expensive although more reliable and I believe have a lifetime warranty.

I agree, I couldn't see why the op was being corrected, "bought" was the correct word to use, I just assumed it had been edited. Anyway, this is not an English lesson so back to the original question, does the same information apply to an SD card for the Nikon D90?
 
How to buy memory cards:

1. Search for Sandisk
2. Look for the word 'Extreme'
3. If that is too expensive, look for the word 'Ultra'
4. Buy

Sandisk, Lexar Transcend are all as good as each other, and hardly any better than other SD brands, with Lexar and Sandisk you normally pay a little extra for the name.



As for spelling, most computers and browsers have a spell checker built in theses days.

i have found this sandisk extreme sdhc card but it says its a class 6 does this matter, as i know earlyer in my thread *** were sayin to get class 10

Personally for what they now cost I would go for a 16GB Class 10, we are not talking a huge amount of money for any of the top brands.

The original SD cards were designed to have a maximum capacity of 2GB. People quickly wanted/needed higher capacities and so the re-designed the SD format in the form of the SDHC (Higher Capacity). And the new design was for capacities from 4GB - 32GB. Again, they didn't foresee the need for capacities beyond 32GB. :shrug: And so another re-design has come up with the SDXC (eXtended-Capacity) card which in theory can have capacities from 32GB - 2TB. :eek:

When SDHC cards came out some cameras could not use the SDHC cards because they weren't designed for them. The same thing will happen with SDXC cards, like your 500D. The newer 550D is SDXC compatible, and I would assume every new camera would be too. Though it's best to check if anyone is going to buy an SDXC card. Some cameras may be made compatible through a firmware update, and though it would be a rare thing to happen I'm sure I've read of a camera getting it done.
