memory foam

My work has just thrown out a peli 1550 case . The case is like new without its padding.
My question is would memory foam be a good replacement for the case padding for camera gear or should I buy packing foam?

I would have thought that pick and pluck foam would be ok. Whether it would be cheaper than buying the peli inserts for the case I don't know

Memory foam cut to the shape of the kit would probably be okay.
