After many months of mind changing, I decided to upgrade to a 7D. So far its only been played with in the house, just to get the feel of it, and it looks good. Am looking forward to using it for real.

Any advice from 7D owners on settings etc would be very gratefully recieved.

I send the seasons greetings to all members on TP, and offer sincere thanks to everyone who has offered so much help to me since I joined this great forum, and thanks to the mods for keeping us in line :rules:

Happy Christmas and a great New Year to you all

If you enjoy it as much as I do, then you will be having fun, as for setting up, would say that If shooting raw, set it up as was recomended for the 50, Highlight Tone etc. off, other settings just play till you get what you want is the best I can sugest.

And have to agree, opend early, have a few days left till Christmas :rules: :naughty: :D

, but opening it early...:rules: :nono:

Yes, your both right, so was the wife when she caught me sneaking the picture lol. My excuse is that it has to be checked to make sure it works, not that she believed me for a moment, :shake:
Its wrapped up now so no more playing till the big day. Makes me feel like a little kid in the toy box again :D
Thanks for your comments

I love the picture! :naughty:

Can't say I'm not envious ;):D Seriously, I hope you enjoy it...

Ps. I'm 37, does your wife have a sister of similar age? ;):D:lol:

Merry Christmas to you and everyone on TP!

Am seriously considering this as an upgrade from my 40D

Let me know how it goes!

Merry Christmas

Cheers Justin, its going to be a few days before I'm allowed to put it through its paces, I'll be posting some results for sure and am happy to make any comments you want.

Merry Christmas to you and everyone on TP!

Thanks for that, its something I thought about long and hard because the 50D is a good camera, but then I thought, why not!
Wife does have a twin sister in fact, I'll have a word with her husband for you, hope your brave :D

Very nice - what made you choose to upgrade to the 7D  (need some good reasons for the wife :D)

Hope you have a good Christmas with it and don't forget to look very surprised :)

Thanks for your good wishes, and yes, I am practicing the surprised look, she knows me too well though, I cant even get away with the truth

My main interest is wild life and especially birds. While the 50D is a great camera, I have always struggled with noise even after taking on board all the excellent advice offered here on TP, and big crops dont help of course. Looking at the results others have had from the 7D, and after talking to a member (CT who is way way way more experienced than I will ever be) who uses one for much the same purpose as me, I decided to get one. His words were that I wouldn’t regret it, and as for deciding if it was worth it he replied with a resounding yes.
So far I have only had a peep at it, but from what I have seen up to now it is looking good in all respects, but I know I have a bit to learn to convert to this camera, its been redesigned in many ways. Time and results will tell more though.

I don’t think all that is going to help you convince your wife though. How about telling her that the 7D is recognised as the best camera on the market for taking pictures of the wife, and its got a special button that always makes them look slimmer and more beautiful.
Oh well, it’s a nice thought anyway :)
Good luck and seasons greeting

This is a good article that covers the "reasons why you need to upgrade"

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/wife.htm

Thankd Ady. Unfortunately the link doesnt seem to be working for me, but I Google'd it and managed to find it. I tried adding the link here as well but it wont work for me either.
If you Google < kenrockwell wife wants you > it comes up first on the page.

Hes got some good ideas there, could we call it 'gentle blackmail' lol, but if it works..... thats what we need.

I must say that I am lucky, my wife was full of encouragement when I was thinking about it, so joking apart I cant complain, Just got to get round a new long white lens!, but thats for the New year me thinks.
On the other hand, she often joins me when I go out and has been looking hard a the 50D and asking questions, so.... watch this space :D
