Ok I have a couple of bags for my gear that I use depending on what I'm doing.

I'm off on holiday soon and was looking at getting a messenger style bag which doesn't look like a camera bag.

It'll need to fit a gripped Nikon D5000 with a 18-70 lens and a Nikon 70-300 VR.

There isn't many shops round here to try out different bags so I thought I'd try you guys and your experiences.

I like the look of some of the crumpler bags, but read that they're not as big as they make out on the description.

I have a Crumpler Muffin Top 5500 but I'm a Canon user so if you give me the dimensions of your kit I'll see what will fit in and report back.

Gripped D5000 approx 130mm x 160mm and sticks out 170mm with the 18-70 attached. 70-300 VR is 180mm x 90mm dia.

Tenba Messenger Mini ... available in seven different colours, plenty big enough for what you want.

Link scroll down the page for the 'mini', and I should add that mcl are first class to deal with.
 
The lens under the tape is 85mm wide. I don't have a camera body that size so the sugar box is 130mm x 75mm. There is also room for a flash in it's case to lie on top of the lenses. This would be a tight fit but would do you and I wouldn't go for any smaller.

Looks like it'll be fine for what I need it for without it being too bulky.

I've got the Crumpler Muffin Top 4000 and I'd recommend it, but obviously you'd need the next size up. But I'd recommend the Crumpler ones. Well made bags and well worth the money!
 
I would never buy anything called "Muffin Top", not even a muffin!
 
Hi Bigvin, I have similar equipment to you and bought a Crumpler Messenger Boy 7500 a while ago. It holds my D80 with 18-70 attached and 70-300vr as well as one or two small lenses depending on how you choose to arrange the inserts.

Doesn't look like they do that model anymore. Seems like this one has replaced it: Messenger Boy 8000
 
I bought a single strap triangle shaped bag from 7dayshop, something like £12!

Litteraly its perfect for me, small but fits all the kit I need (just now), has a little pocket for memory cards and does not really look like a camera bag.
 
I have a Think Tank Retrospective 20 in the greenish colour which they call Pinestone. As Phil mentions above, it doesn't look like a camera bag. This one is taller than the 30 so i bought it as i want a 70/200 or 100/400 next and it fits in upright.

Love Crumpler products but found even the 7500 size was too small for me.

Thanks everyone for the advice and recommendations.

Was out shopping today and picked up a bag from M&S for £19.50 :thinking:

Looks nothing like a camera bag because it isn't :lol:

Has a small zipped pocket inside in which i've inserted a piece of camping mat which provides padding all round for my camera. :thumbs:

thw clumpler bags are very good and great price, Jessops have some nice ones too.
 
I use the Muffin Top 7500 and it's great. Enough to put my stuff in and a few snacks/water. Brilliant that it's waterproof as well.
 
What about a lowepro classified 160AW doesnt look like a camera bad at all, esecially the sepia one.
 
I was going to second the tenba mini messenger, just carried mine round Cyprus for a week jammed full of kit without any problems. Looks like you have solved the problem though!
