Metering mode 40d

I've read the gig tips which were very useful. However, for gig photography, what metering mode would you use?

40d + f/1.4 mm

Last gig I did, I used manual.

Thanks for the replies, I'll have a go at that, I only really use manual for macro.

Manual for me, things are changing to much much else.
