Metz 24 AF-1 Flashgun

Hi, I've never used a flashgun before so thought I'd buy a reasonable cheap one to start with, the only question I have is in the description it says canon fit but doesn't define any particular models, so my question is will this flashgun work with my 1100D?

Yes it will but its a very restrictive flashgun. Limited tilt , No swivel, No Zoom, tiny guide number (by the time you bounce this on a high ceiling you will struggle to get decent flash coverage) it is however small and light but if you want to venture away from your cameras pop up flash I'm afraid it wont inspire your photo shooting much. If you want to stick to Metz then spend another tenner on the 36 AF-5. Higher guide number but that's about it, it does zoom but its manual and that will annoy the crap out of you quicker than anything else so I don't see the point of it really. You will forget to do it half the time and it will just frustrate you.

Best advice if your budget is around the £60 mark is the Yongnuo YN-468 mkII at £60 from ebay.

Decent Guide number, Tilt and Swivel Head, Auto Zoom, E-TTL for full compatibility with your camera, PC Sync port and even a couple of slave flash modes, The new ones even have a metal hotshoe foot (apparently). I think for the money its the best bang for your buck out there and is much more versatile than your original choice and will open up all kinds of avenues to inspire you.

The Yongnuo flash offers a lot more for the same money as the Metz, I'll probably get that instead

Sensible decision

The yongnuo's are not as well constructed as the Canons and Nissins but for £60 its practically Canon 430ex spec with less power. Real bargain, the yongnuo stuff has really improved over the last year or so.
