Micro adjusting a lens

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but can a lens be micro adjusted beyond the camera's limit?

I have a Sigma 120-300 (bought used) and have always felt it need adjusting to 20 which is the 7d's limit. I've also tried it on FoCal, which also says it needs to at 20.

My gut feeling is that if the 7d could go higher, the Sigma would benefit from this. Is there anyway of getting this done?

I thought my lenses were out but the bloke said at the shop that any lens needing more than 1 change was ok but any thing over 2 was quiet bad and should probably be sent off

I thought that was good advise becouse he didnt want to get me to send my camera off and make me spend unnecessary money

Do you mean if it needs more than two points movement? I think that's untrue as even with the variables defined as within tolerance you could have a difference of 8 points between lens and body.
 
Just curious how much roughly do anon, Nikon etc charge for calibrating camera wir=th a lens

One or two points on the Canon +/- 20 scale? It varies a bit by lens, but that's a very small amount indeed. You'd struggle to notice it even with an f/1.4 lens, L grade or not.

I've checked a lot of L lenses and they've all needed something in the +/- 2-6 kind of range. It also varies very slightly from end to end of a zoom, and again if you fit an extender.

I wouldn't be happy if all my lenses were like +15 or something, which suggests the camera needs adjustment, but you can get a couple of points variation just shot to shot with the same lens.
 
Probably should add that I also ran my Canon 70-200 through FoCal as well and that needed +2, so I think the camera is fine. Will look into sending the lens off & camera off next week
