ok can anyone explain to me what is meant by micro adjusting lens to bodies and how to do, it and what it improvement i can expect from it, thanks in advance
 
I found it made an obvious difference to my shots especially with lenses like the 100-400.

I used Focal Software
 
Yeh, I did it on the 500 f/4 a couple of weeks ago, which, for some reason had decided to go out of kilter. It made a huge difference and I only used a chart I printed off the internet for nowt.
 
Worth mentioning that Micro Adjust is very much a system adjustment - it it is calibrating out any tolerance variance in the lens/body system as a whole. I often see people saying they are selling a lens that requires no AF micro adjustment as if it's a selling point. It may be that it requires a significant adjustment on a different body due to the different system tolerances - e.g. thickness of lens mount (both on lens and body), state of calibration of the AF system in the body, sensor position etc etc. You will almost certainly get different adjustments on different bodies - my 85 1.2, with a wafer thin DOF, varies considerably between the MAF adjustment required on each my 2 bodies and previous bodies I've owned. MAF is worth doing though, as while 90% of the time you may never really be testing the AF accuracy, due to DOF accommodation, when you start using large apertures at closer range, you can start to see focus issues that you might otherwise have been able to tune out. I have found though, that there is quite a variance in the focus system between shots - depending on if the lens has focussed from infinity to a closer point, or from close range to a further point, or between AF activations - all can result in slightly different focus points. It's not a perfect system in short.
