Currently have a 50d, have used the mirco adjustment on my 60mm prime.

Struggling to find information on settings for zoom lens of 17-55.

would I set in the middle range, then check the wide and narrow angles or what?

any help welcome

I've been looking at this in anticipation of trying my lenses on my 5Dmk2 (which is in for repair). The 24-105L front focuses on the 450D I currently have, not by much, but enough to put things slightly soft. Both the 18-55IS and 70-200L seem to be bang on with AF though.

The stuff I've read suggests opening the aperture as far as possible and zooming in as far as you can. That makes sense - the longer the focal length, the more the need to get the focusing right. I'm going to try it at full zoom, mid zoom and wide open when I get the camera back. Clearly, if they read different, a compromise position will need to be found.

There's an interesting (to me!!) article here: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/cameras/1ds3_af_micoadjustment.html

Have a read of that article I posted. It looks like the method suggested there is free, highly accurate (as you have to be bang on focus for the fringing patterns to appear at all) and all done on a PC.

In that case I will try that first! lol
