Micro four thirds prices?

Yes
Hi there, I will be living abroad hopefully in South America in a years time and traveling around I would prefer something a fair bit more compact than my current Canon and lenses or at least something that at times I can put in my pocket.

The new micro four thirds cameras such as the Panasonic GF1 look ideal (I'm surprised by the lack of posts about this and the Olympus EP1 on here).

However in comparison to Canon the lenses seem very expensive.

The Panasonic 14-140 is £725 and the 7-14 is £900. I thought the attraction of a smaller sensor was that lenses are cheaper to make? Or are these prices high due to the range being new and the prices likely to fall?

I doubt whether Panasonic prices will drop much soon tbh. They seem to positioning themselves as a premium brand and reports suggest that they are selling well at current prices.

Also both of the lenses you list are quality lenses that will always be pricey and the 7-14 is much cheaper than the Oly 7-14 for 4/3 at almost £1400. The lower end kit lenses are supposed to be quite good and are cheaper. Perhaps when there is more competition in the sector prices may fall a bit?

Micro 4/3rds is so new it's hardly reached the shops yet!

I think it has a lot of potential and is arguably the shape of things to come, or at least I think mirror-less cameras with electronic viewfinders are. Give it a couple of years and things will be different but right now you're paying novelty value prices.

Hey i have a panasonic G1, first of all i LOVE it!!! and secondly ive bought the second lens from ebay from a british seller and it was considerably cheaper!! ive also looked at overseas prices and they are alot cheaper too, so youll be in perfect position with moving over there!!! go for it their ace!!! :D

I like it, its my first dslr so can't really compare to the usual stuff. Easy to use and the picture quality is more than good enough for me.
Im going to get the 45-200 lens next month.
