Right here is the problem...

I have a device that copies SD,xD or memory stick to DVD automatically.

I have a camera that works with CF type 1 cards.

I have seen SD to CF type 2 cards but that does not fit the camera


I have bought a microSD to CF type 1 adapter.........

Sticking a microSD 2gb card into the adapter it appears to work in the D700 so long as I take a shot and wait a moment before taking another shot. In the D300 it is rather dodgy and might write 1 to 5 pictures before it fails with a card error.

Sticking the same microSD card into an SD adapter works in the device

Sticking the same microSD card into the same CF adapter works in the computer.


So the CF and SD adapters work and the microSD card works BUT the CF adapter with microSD card does not seem to work in the Nikon camera.

DOH!!!!!


Anyone know if there is a device that allows you to plug a CF card into an SD slot :bang:

Qn 1 - Which is that device that converts directly..? Name /Specs/Model no

Qn 2- Which is that microSD to CF type 1 adapter...? Name /Specs/Model no

That would be a neat trick! :)





Any adapters I have tried have resulted in slower transfer speeds, this could be your problem?

You are a MACho :D.

So I shouldn'tbe asking these basic questions.

Have you ever formatted your microSD card using your CF adaptor. Through your PC or through your computer....If yes, then it could have corrupted some sectors of your card and so it's showing error in D300 after some time and it is not showing in D700 because writing performance is different.

There will be a speed reduction when you use any adapters and so ......:)

I formatted the microSD card using the camera.
 
So I presume the problem started from the second time or there's no problem when u've used it for the first time.

No the problem is that the card does go into either camera and you might get 1 or 2 shots before the card error or even none sometimes even 5 or 6.

Did you try with some other micro sd card which you have never used before with the adaptor,

The speediest memory cards generally use single level cell (SLC) memory (SanDisk calls this binary-type memory). This type of flash memory also offers the highest number of erase/write cycles. The alternative is multi level cell (MLC) memory, which is slower and less expensive per MB than SLC, which in turn translates into lower-priced CompactFlash and SD/SDHC /micro SD cards, but also a lower erase/write cycle specification.

There was no change before or after the first time it was formatted. All the bits were new and bought specifically for this purpose. I put the new card into the adapter and stuck it into the D700. I got the error 2nd shot and then formatted it in the D700. I still had the problem after it formatted but only after maybe half a dozen shots. In the D300 it is even less reliable maybe going 2 or 3. Both cameras work better if you take shots more slowly but that does not always sort it!

I couldn't find an SD to CF1 adapter, that would have been perfect. All the SD card ones were CF2! Will have another look....

Same here, I'd be interested of any solution for using SD with the D700.

I bought an SD to compact flash type TWO adapter by mistake and sold it on here. After I sold it I realised that the D300 appears to have a type 2 slot and the D700 only a type 1 slot! If I can get the D300 working with SD then great. Alternatively I need to sell the brand new SONY card writer and get the model above as it has the CF slot on it!!...... I might end up buying one of those anyway and selling this Sony card writer on here. I am sure there would be plenty of takers as it is brand new. At the moment though I am waiting to see if a different microSD card works or whether another microSD to CF1 adapter might work.
 
Well I had ordered 2 microSD cards and the other arrived today whilst I was at work. Just tried it now and it works fine in the D300 with the adapter. So I thought I would put the first one in which also works fine now!!

So BOTH the cards work in the D300 which was the camera I needed them to work in but which was the worst camera previously.......

So my assumption is right.

Now, I feel that you shouldn't be trying to format your microSD using your camera when it is in the adaptor and instead you can format through card reader

Eh ??

They both now work and I formatted them both in the camera and they both still work....

I have absolutely no idea why the first one wasn't working but not had a single problem with the second THEN the first started to work as well.

They are VERY slow but speed really is not an issue for this job....
