Just sold my Nikon 35-70 F2.8 lens,

Am considering another mid range zoom! Heard about the tamron 24-70 VC which is rather tempting. Love the sharpness of the nikon, unfortunately AF was a little slow...

Any other suggestions for a mid range zoom???
 
tamron is probably by far is a better option for budget. Optic is great but AF speed is slow compare to nikon AFS
 
I guess it won't be as slow as the 35-70mm. Hope that comes out soon :)
 
Besides, the 35-70 was an AF-D lens right? So the AF speed was down to the body anyway. How wide and long are you roughly looking for?

How do you know the new Tamron is slow to AF? I thought it wasn't released yet and I know they have used an USD for AF so I would expect it to perform relatively well in comparison to the Nikon if we go by the 70-300 VC.

Clashes with my Tamron 17-50, would prefer the focal length 24-70 as I usually use my 11-16 for landscapes...

Yup... Found it a little slow on my d300, I think 24-70 would be just right, as the only issue I faced with my 35-70 having a wider angle of view at 35mm. A little longer than 70 mm is fine for me

Would prefer a 24-70 for mid range zoom rather than a 17-50, which im intending to sell it off before I get a 24-70. So I will have 11-16 for landscapes and 24-70 as my midrange zoom. Would like the extra 20mm reach when taking some pictures.

Easy....just take a couple of steps forward :thumbs: Save on the massive expense and weight of the 24-70 ..

Yup. Have been doing that until I tried the 35-70mm which got me hooked on :) is it really that heavy? Maybe the 35-70 is a rather light lens

I misread the focal length he mention. I thought he talking about the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 which i personal think is slow AF compare to my nikon AFS 28-70.

Tamron new 24-70 f2.8 could be quick but most of Tamron product is slow AF in my eyes and personal use. Is one of those thing you have to wait till it comes and out and try it.

How is the afs 28-70? Heard its really sharp but it's quite heavy
 
Yes you are right, the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 is sharp and good optic. I don't think the lens is heavy to behonest, in fact it is alot lighter compare to the Nikon 28-70 or 24-70.

Like I said, the AF on the Tamron 28-70 is slower compare to nikon AFS. I'm not saying it is massively really slow but it is a fact that is slower then AFS.

I'm pretty sure the Tamron is a 28-75 f2.8

The 'Nikor' 28-70 f2.8 is a really good lens but still pretty large in my opinion.

I'm thinking that your original thought would be the way to go...give the new Tamron a try when it is released, it may well just be a winner :cool:
 
Budget dependent of course but I can tell you that I have a borderline unhealthy love for my Nikon 28-70. It's big though and pretty heavy but IQ is hard to fault.
 
yeah, gonna do so when it comes out... was looking at the nikon 28-70, was terrified by the reviews on the weight
 
The weight on the nikon 28-70 is not bad if you shoot all day i.e wedding because you getting the job done and it kinda distract your attention on the weight, but for walk around you definite feel the lens is not a good one to use .......... i try it once walking in a park looking for shots but end up my hands feel tired before i actually start shooting .......
