Me and my mentor had a day out in Wales yesterday. A bit of mountain climbing in the morning (5 am!) and then a nice long wait in freezing cold wind and blizzard conditions on Pikes Peak. (That's a pretty normal outing for us tbh!)

Here are a few of my favourites from the afternoon.

#1 - Remember when Skoda's were REALLY crap? They tend to be a little bit better these days!

#3 - An iconic view from Pikes Peak. I did say it was windy!

#4 - The new R5 class is a real blast.

#5 - Adam was also having a blast!

Brilliant set, love number 5 and 9.

Looks like the weather held you for you as well (apart from the cold!)!

Always the joys of shooting in Wales!

Need to get back out there this year, there are some lovely locations and the rallying is always amazing.

Do you shoot in Wales often?

Well done for sticking it out. Some fab shots there. I think it's going to be a fantastic series.

Not really, no. Covered the WRC last year but that was it. This was my second trip over but we're planning to cover a few days of the WRC this time around.

Thanks. The R5's have really added something to it. The power and traction is immense. Still a sucker for an Escort though... ;)

Great work, makes the selection I'm about to post look boring. Love the Adam shot but then I do own one!

Cheers buddy. I covered the WRC with an 85mm lens as my longest lens so thought a 70-200 would work quite well. Still not a fan of filling the frame though so shooting further away was the order of the day for me.

Was good fun.

Scintillating set of images. You can taste the atmosphere. Looks like you have considered your compositions, and certainly put in some research before the event to make sure you maximised the potential of your trip.
If I had to pick a favourite, i would struggle to choose between 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8.
9 is a bin job, Snowman or no snowman

Superb set - I remember getting the arse out on my MK1 and MK2 Escorts - very tail happy cars - wish I'd never sold them now - worth a small fortune:)

What a refreshing change and a great set too.

Love the first for the subtle colours and the #4 and #5 for the POV and #6 for a more classic look.

"Broken a few rules" there but I couldn't care less - good imagination on the composition and I like the colours throughout.

No kidding, I was talking to a lad at Sweet Lamb for SS1 who had just got a Mk2 which had been rolled, with no engine or gearbox for ten grand.

Cool or even cold set, that looks like a tough day out but you got some excellent results and a very good mix of photos. I like them all even the last

Yes, i was fully feeling the effects of our full on expedition the following day. Even now i still have a few aching muscles.

Superb rally set again to follow up on the WRC set. Really well thought out again.

2, 3, 5, 7 & 8 if I had to choose.

Thanks Brian, I'm glad you could still remember my WRC shots.

FTFY. :D

Thanks for your comments mate. Would be interested to hear about these 'rules' you speak of ;)

Things like not leaving space for the car to move into the shot (especially shot #2) and car not being on a third in #5.

Not all photography has to conform to the rules and that's why I said a) I couldn't care less and b) What a refreshing change :)

It's like I tell my boss - The rules are there to be bent or applied as necessary;)

Ahhh, you mean all the generic boring stuff... Gotcha! :D

Yeah i don't bother with all that crap, i much prefer to do my own thing. As i don't sell the photos i would hate to have a photostream full of frame fillers.

It's about time more people did stuff there own way and do it the way they like. Too many people think about this rule, that rule, and "technically" something isn't good. None of that matters. Take and share the images that mean and do something for you, not someone else.

Just my 2 cent!

Some cracking shots mate fair play love them all...... Hope to add the rs to my garage asap lol

Thanks all. Still have a few to go through.

#11 - I do like Curly Wurlys!

#12 - Not a common sight on a rally, but the colour scheme added a little brightness

#13 - Not 100% on this one, but i liked the snow capped backdrop. Kind of summed up our day out in Wales really, landscapes followed by rallying.

#14 - Someone mentioned earlier that the weather had held... Not all the time it didn't!

Fair play mate I would be over the moo. With images like this you have done a cracking job give yourself a pat on the back..... Or. A whiskey whiskey is much better lol

Two "Cracking" sets m8, liking all of these very much.(y)

George.

Excellent again David, for your dedication, it's can't be easy in this weather. IIRC the weather was appalling the last time you crossed the border for the rallying.

Cheers Simon. You mean for the WRC? That had to be the wettest day ever known to man ever. Hoping to head across again in April for the North Wales rally. Wonder what treats will be in store for then?!

Yes I think that's the one, remember your pics (get your rocks off?) and problem with rubbers on your lens in D750 thread?? Usually April is nice weather here, but I suppose that will change when you bring the rain or whatever other nasties over the border.;)

Seriously though, you bring a very good mixture of photography to this forum, and I enjoy looking at them.

Ahhh, i feel complete!

I enjoy a bit of everything tbh, jack of all trades, master of none etc. That's why i struggle with gear. If i was just into one thing then i would just kit myself out with the best i could afford but shooting a mix of stuff has caused me a few 'problems' with GAS.

Blimey you are getting good at this David ! Lovely positioning used, breath-taking scenery adds massively . Keep it up, I'll try and keep an eye on the D750 thread to see when you are visiting Brands this year.
