Might be a daft question but

When you have a large lens like the 70-200 or so do you get a strap that connects onto the lens for walking about with? I was just thinking that the camera might get damaged with such a weight hanging off the front of it.

Not with the 70-200's but a number of the larger primes do, the 300mm f/2.8 does for example.
If it isn't provided with the lens then you shouldn't worry too much, just don't go jogging etc ;)

I hate jogging. I'm only buying a big lens to disguise my belly !!

A lot depends on the manner you carry it too, I tend to hook a couple of fingers into the hood to help support the weight, or carry it like a baby across your arms.?

Not 70-200 no.. 300 and higher yes

generaly speaking :)

erm, yes it could! doesn't it depend on the aperture. ie my Nikon 55-200 vr 5.6 - about 300 grams. Nikon 80-200 2.8 - erm over a kilo! Nikon 75-300 VR 5.6 about 500 grams. I think its to do with the aperture size, the larger hte aperture, the larger the lens.

Don't mean to butt in if I'm completely wrong, please correct if I am :)
