Milan: camera's allowed in the San Siro??? (updated: YES)

Hi there

Going to Milan in a few weeks for 5 days and hoping to catch the AC v Bologna game. Does anyone know if taking in a DSLR would be a problem? Will be travelling light, gripped EOS400D and probably just the 24-105mm in a small Crumpler.

Anybody have any helpful tips/advice and must see's?? Been to Milan before but was a whistlestop so only took in the Duomo and La Scala - hoping for some quality photo time this time round! We're staying near Centrale train station so handy for venturing further too. Como seems to be springing up as an option.

Any info would be very much appreciated.

same rules over there as here i guess, they always say no cameras, but seem to allow smaller compacts into the stadiums, i guess you could probably get away with taking it, but be prepared to run back to the hotel to drop it off if not????
 
b****r :bang: Was hoping not to have to leave it back at the hotel as I've had gear nicked before so it's normally surgically attached these days ;)
 
We've just come back from a fab 5 days of Milan, Bergamo and Lake Como so thought I'd update this thread with a couple of tips I picked up in case any of you are planning on going there sometime.

1) The answer is yes, YOU CAN take DSLR's into games at the San Siro. We went on the stadium tour the day before the game and I asked the guide. He reassurred me it wouldn't be a problem. Had the full bag search and was still brickin it at this point but true enough it was not a problem. Amazingly they are more concerned with bottle tops and have to be removed and binned before they let you in! How the Inter fans got a scooter in (before dropping it from a tier!) a few years back I'll never know - though expect the security has been stepped up since then!

2) Match tickets go on sale 2 hours BEFORE a game! You MUST take your passport as ID to obtain tickets and go through the turnstiles. Your name is printed on the ticket and they check they match. Orange seats (stand opposite the benches) is the cheaper option. €34 for the 2nd tier. We saw AC v Bologna and the stadium was half empty. Good view but wish I'd packed the 70-300 or even the 400. Travelled with just what I thought I needed, the 28-105 expecting not to be able to get the camera into the game.

3) Lake Como - from Como take the ferry (not the car ferry) as opposed to the Express version as there are more drop off options. We left at 10am getting off at Mennagio, Varenna and Bellagio and got the 4:45 back. Had about 1 1/2 hrs in each location. Not long really but I'd have spent longer there if I was on my own. Sit at the back on the left hand side (as you look forwards) on the way out and shoot scenes on the left hand side only. The other side and you'd be shooting directly into the early morning sun. Sit on the same side on the way back and again shoot anything on the left as the sun will have moved round and you're able to get the side you skipped in the morning.

Italian football changed after the death of Filippo Raciti, for the better it sounds if security has improved. Really the Ultras control the club over there, and it shows (scooters smuggled in, offensive banners etc). I'd love to get to a Milan derby one day though just to experience the atmoshpere.

Would like to see the photos you got if you don't mind posting them?
