Fantastic shots! I've thought about heading up to Mildenhall or Lakenheath for the day, but I've read loads of conflicting reports on whether it's worth it or not. Do you have any advice?

Great set ;)

Thanks for all the comments.

I suppose that depends on what you want from it and how far you'd be having to travel. It has become a bit of a tourist hotspot since covid, so there's usually an awful lot of people milling around the fence these days.

Lakenheath only fly Mon-Fri, unless there's a NOTAM out for any out of hours weekend movements (usually either something arriving or departing to/from the US). Mildenhall is open at weekends but again, only for scheduled movements. Training flights take place during the week. The other thing to watch out for is that Fridays are usually only a half day. Both bases observe US and UK public holidays, so there's no point visiting on Thanksgiving for example.

In terms of flying, Lakenheath is generally fairly busy, especially when all the squadrons are at home. Mildenhall can be hit or miss, some days hardly anything moves and other days there's all kinds of interesting stuff popping in.

Very interesting set. The Harrier especially so, as you can see the pilot fighting the wind - you can see the heat from the wing nozzles over the port wing, trying to get it down.

I saw the Harrier pic on FB and commented. Probably the best photo of the whole weekend.
Oh that's interesting, where'd you see it as I don't have Facebook!? Probably someone else's from a similar position?

Spent most of my working life in the air and although it’s technically on the ground, the Harrier picture grabbed me. It conveys just what it’s like to be out in sh*te weather. Excellent capture
