The kit in post 1 looks like a kit I had, really rubbish, don't waste your money on it. Either make a light tent or buy one from Ebay. For the lighting when I first started I used two cool-lite lights in normal goose neck stands (the cool-lite bulbs are a standard screw fit type and daylight balanced)

DIY tent
e-bay light tent
Intefit cool bulbs

I agree with the light tent route, I have a small table one and a big 1.5m that is great fun to collapse, I used to use it for pre school children.

I think I purchased my 50cm one for around £12 on ebay which included four colour backgrounds, they are handy to have if not used that much.

Have a look at cool lites or if you fancy flash a good starter kit is the interfit ex150. You might pick one up second hand for around £100 also will offer a little more versatility if you want to have a go at portraits.

Looks identical to a kit I got. The
The camera stand was useless, camera wobbles rediculously
The light box part was too small for many things
The only semi-usable part were the two lamps. These were 'dodgy' cabled though, and made me concerned about leaving them plugged in for too long.

I was much happier with a collapsible 1.5m light box.
