right today i went on a 520mile road trip on my SV650 to go banksy hunting, and at the last one i could of done with my tripod, but my red snapper is a bit bit to carry on my back for that long, so i want a very cheap one i can carry when i feel ill need it when out on the bike (not very often)

would something like this hold a D5000???

I've got a similar one which holds my 5D easily. I take it you realise they don't stand very high and you'll be on your knees using it?
 
yeah being low is not a problem, i was in Torquay taking photo`s of the banksy robot and as it was dark there was not much light so used the headlights from my motorbike, but i felt if i had my tripod i could of get a lot better pictures.




or is there another small light tripod out there i should consider??? i mean sell my red snapper and use the money from it to fund it. but it must be as good.

i love my red snapper so i want to keep it unless there is something out there that will proform as well or better, but i think its easyer to grab a cheap small one, what do you people think.

The advantage of such short tripods is their rigidity. You get this at a low price but have to get down to use them. As they get taller, the same cheapness translates in to something less rigid, so you start having to pay a lot more to get it back, whilst trying to maintain the lightness. You're then finding yourself in the £200+++ price bracket.
 
How about a gorillapod? You could always clamp that to your bike / railings / whatever at the height you want.
 
I've a Trek-Tech t'pod Trek-Tech-T-Pod & it manages to hold all of my gear (see below) with no worries what so ever... Even done the review on Amazon for it as well :$

Except they had a deal on when I got mine, it was for sale at something like £12.50, which is reasonable, £30 definitely is not! Have a look around and you might find one for less! Holds my 5D without too much worry too :)

I have the same Tripod, cart it around with me everywhere in my back pack, great product for the price and sturdy enough to hold my 50D with 70-200 f2.8 attached (when I had them).
