Minolta 300mm 2.8 with 2x convertor

Hi i have a chance to buy this lens with convertor for my A700 /A550

The price is £1450 and i will be using for birds in flight.

Is this the lens to go for or should i get the 70-400mm ssm lens???

Read this http://kurtmunger.com/300mm_zoom_and_prime_shoot_outid217.html which will get you started, although it is the Sony 300mm rather than the Minolta - since you haven't said which variant of the Minolta I'm going to guess it is not the SSM variant, which the Sony is a copy of.

I have the Minolta 300/4 and 2x converter but not either of the lenses you are talking about.

Thanks for the reply it is the G version the last version made by minolta. It has the faster af.

I will have a read how do you get on with yours?? worth the pennies??
