Couple of questions please after buying one of these...

1. Can't find any mention of wireless shutter release, only wired remote - isn't the wireless facility available on the MKIV, or am I missing it?


2. Haven't used SD cards before, notice there are different suffixes, HC etc, what are people using to take advantage of the 10fps?

The MkIV will take any wireless remote that fits the 1srs, 5D, 7D or xxD series bodies.

Card speed isn't a big issue for the high FPS as the buffer is plenty big enough to cope (it is for me at least)

Ken - when you say you haven't used SD cards before, do you mean you have used CF cards? The Mk IV will take either or both.

One other point - be prepared to go through doors sideways because when you find out how good the Mk iv is, the grin might not fit through square on. :thumbs:

If it really excites you then you might find you won't fit sideways either :eek:

Oggy - yeah, I have a CF card in, but would like to add an SD card as back up (or vice versa) so just looking at what configuration people prefer...


Bob - not sure what you mean? I mean totally wireless, i.e not a wired remote, can't find a mention of it in the manual.

I have the RC-1 for the 7D & 5D MKII
 
Any SD card will let you shoot at 10fps. The only issue is that slower cards may have to wait for the buffer to fill.

HC cards are high capacity and I think any SD card over 4GB is classified as an SDHC. I use Sandisk Extreme Pro 8GB SDHC cards in my 1DIV. They were (don't know what they are now) £21 from Amazon a few weeks ago.

Think you have that the wrong way around. Any SD card will let you shoot at 10fps until the on-camera buffer fills.. After that point, the speed of the SD card will limit the burst rate to the speed it can clear data from the buffer. Factors that affect this will be whether you shoot RAW or JPEG and how fast the card is at writing data.
 
When using two cards, be sure to check how the camera is writing to each card.Pg 56 and 57 in the manual. There are a lot of ways that they con be configured. For example, Large RAW to the CF whilst simultaneously writing Small JPG to the SD.....Another example could be to write to the CF until full then auto swap to the SD....

I use the settings where I write to both at the same time and both JPG...The CF card has the largest JPG and the SD card I select a medium JPG....

My thinking behind this, is that I will have a small backup if the CF card fails and also I understand the CF to have the faster write speed so it can write larger files more quickly than the SD...Hence the smaller file size setting for the SD card.

C'mon mod's, get the time-out increased, some of us type with one finger...

its not the site.. its you... been here years and never timed out once... and I write some epics :)

Never happens anywhere else, only TP, and it's regular - unless there's something I can configure in 'my settings' here on TP?

not sure ken.. but seriously i cant even remeber the last time i needed to log in... maybe its the STAY LOGGED IN option?

A guy was selling some on TP and I looked into it but SDXC is not mentioned in the manual ...I could not find reference to it on the Canon USA site neither... So i gave them a wide berth. The Extreme Pros's are fantastic....never caused me to loose a shot due to buffer filling up and not emptying quick enough.

Yep its been one of those weeks!! I meant to write empty and not fill. You've explained it better though.

SDXC are just higher capacity cards. I think SDHC goes to 32GB and XC is above that.

The cards mentioned above are what I use too just in 8GB rather than 16GB
