Hey all

Had my first model shoot in a studio today, shot 4 models, was a bit of a logistical nightmare to get started but once we did we were off, I used a 430EX on camera and a set of 1000W (2x500w) Halogen lights directed at the room to give soft lighting.

Main gear was a Canon EOS-1D and a Sigma APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG/HSM (77mm)

Can't really criticise these to much having never done studio work, but in the last shot the model in orange, her eyes appear to have rolled back into her head or something spoiling the shot, or is that a look of excitement.

Studio photography is never easy and I think you have done a very good job. The hardest part is often making the models feel relaxed, and I believe not only did you achieve that but thats come through in the shots.

I prefer the first 2 out of the set, but overall they are all very good.

I really like #3, although I'm sure it would look even better with a quick tweak in levels to brighten it a tad.

It can be subjective and down to personal taste but I'd incline towards brightening them a tad especially bringing a bit more of the face "out of shadow". I'm not so sure the final model with the eyes caught rolling back will be so pleased.

The use of shallow depth of field is growing on me well in the first two shots :) the first in particular.

Thank you all, the last shot was a muck around shot, something different, well the model in orange just through her head back and grabs the male models hair ...

I had to do a bit of tweaking in photoshop as most of the images were under exposed, if you have any hints on the brightning please let me know.

I like the last shot (although I agree about the eyes thing). I know nothing about studio photography, but I think this shot proves cjnicolai's point made elsewhere (found it now - its in this thread: http://tinyurl.com/yp4h7w) that when doing stuff like this, you need to get everyone close together and - all touch each other.

Oh, I like #3 as well. She .. well, we're not supposed to comment on the models, just the quality of the photos. It does it for me on all sorts of levels :)

1 and 2 work for me. Can imagine them as adverts for a suit or something. Both are maybe framed a little tight, but its not too bad. Number 3 I find the lighting a bit flat. I also find the backdrop colour a bit too much in the middle in terms of tone. It needs to be brighter, or significantly darker imo. Maybe if you chose a backdrop that fairly closely matched her skin, then used backlighting for seperation. Number 4 doesn't work for me at all im afraid. This is mainly due to the women's expressions.
