modular PS question

Sorry for the absolute novice question but on a modular PS can I plug any of the peripheral cables into any of the outlets that fit on the PS?

not any connector no. you will have specific sockets for cables for - molex/sata power, PCI, motherboard connectors.

The idea of a modular PSU is so you don't have loads of unused cables hanging around inside your case blocking airflow and looking messy, it's not for connecting peripheral items outside the case. It will have 12 and 5 volt outlets for the mobo, drives, fans, gfx etc.
