I have 2 Samsung monitors and have had them for a while. The 215TW is a cracking Samsung Panel. Calibrates very well and no problems.

Same cannot be said for the 2253BW. No matter what I do it won't calibrate properly. Very bright at default and colours are way off -even after calibration with the Spyder2Pro.

Just looks like it has a slight lack of contrast and in comparing colours what is blue on the good screen is greenish on the other!!

I think it's the backlight bleed on the cheap monitor but can anyone help?

Not sure if you can do this with the Spyder pro ( I use the X-rite device,) but can you go into advanced or similar settings which allows you to manually adjust brightness etc, by using the monitors OSD.

It may be called something like pre-calibration or similar. All the software I have used has allowed you to do this.

It may be that it's done it's best to get the monitor sorted and that's the best it can do. I have had some monitors that are a real nightmare to calibrate, but using the manual precalibration, amd "Twiddling" the controls has produced some very acceptable results

If all else fails drop an email to DataColor and see if they can help.

Yes I've tried that biy not sure what to do! THe colour is off and the brightness of one compared to the other is significant (cheap monitor much brighter)!

It's a real pain.

I'll try again :)

thanks
Jim

It's not really what you should do but, if you reduce the contrast setting on the monitor you may be able to get the brightness down to a usable level.

It's a bit hit and miss if it works but it may help. If you are simply using the "cheaper" monitor for a tools palette for Photoshop, then I'd just get the monitor looking about right. Using it for a second screen in Lightroom though could be more problematical if you want to compare images..

I don't use it as a monitor for photography - that's done on my 215TW which calibrates perfectly well and output is like my profiled printer. So I'll try and play around to see what I get.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers
Jim
