Morning all,
I'm having a mare trying to calibrate my monitor using a Spyder3 Pro. I do the colour calibration stage getting the RGB channels as close as possible and trying to get the luminance down to 120 cdm^2. I then go onto the next stage which is setting the black and white points and come unstuck.
After taking an initial reading it always says that the white point is too low (to the left of the scale) and says to adjust contrast to get it in the centre of the scale. I've set the contrast to 100 and it makes little to no difference, th only way to shift the white point to the middle of the scale is to up the brightness of the monitor. The problem is that it increases the cdm^2 value undoing everything you just set. For example I've just set the RGB channels with a luminance of 140, adjusted the blacks to the middle of the scale, the whites are to the left with the contrast at 100 but I figured it was better to be able to see accurate shadow details and have the whites a little darker, but when I went back to the previous screen my luminance is now 160. Not only that but adjusting the contrast has a big effect on the RGB colour balance.
How on earth am I supposed to get a sensible luminance level and still get a proper white point? The other thing is the software has a luminance target of 175 for some reason. Can I change the target point? Does the target point have an effect on the expected B&W points? ie if I lowered the target points would it compensate the B&W point so that I might actually be able to balance one with the other?
