Hello all,

Can anyone advise me regarding monitor calibration? I've got a Dell 2209W (IPS) (via recomendations on here) for editing my photos as I use a Dell XPS laptop with a 13" screen usually.

The issue is the Dell monitor is very different on the image front compared to the laptop screen, and my work Dell (TA) screen.

The colours on the dell are alot more saturated and its brighter too, ok it looks great but then when I edit my images and view them on other computers they look poor.

I'm using Windows 7 and run the normal calibration, i.e with the sqaures and such - but I still have the issue. I guess a Spyder monkey or such would be best but I was hoping for a cost free option to at least improve things?

I know colour continuity is the bain of any graphic profesionals life!

Any adivce would be appreciated.
 
My only advice is to get a decent hardware calibrator.

However, even that may not mean that your monitors are exactly the same, as your external monitor will be of a significantly higher quality than your laptop screen, so even though they are both calibrated, the laptop may not seem to be the same.

Also bear in mind that with laptops there are viewing angles to contend with too.
 
I've got the Spyder 3 which is OK, wish I'd spent a bit more for the EyeOne though at the software seems much better.

i use a spyder3 pro on both of my 2209WA screens and theyre 99.9% accurate to what comes back from DSCL.

i calibrated my laptop last night for a laugh (id always recommend a desktop monitor for editing), i quickly deleted the profile..
