Monitor Calibration

I am thinking of investing in some sort of monitor calibration, can anyone tell me what can go wrong with these? Is a second hand one as good as a new one?

Many thanks

Like any piece of opto-electronics they can fail but in the same way are extremely reliable. A bigger risk (IMHO) is getting an older version of whichever device you choose and then find it's software/drivers are not compatable with your operating system.

Hi

Thanks for the info, I was specifically looking at a spyder 3 pro.

I don't think this is too old

I'm watching a few Spyder 3's on ebay just to see an average price against new and then deciding whether or not to make the plunge :)

Biggest risk is like any 2nd hand stuff expecially from a private seller, There maybe no warranty and it maybe faulty or broken in some way. I havent used spyder 3 pro/Elite but they are supposed to be a reliable monitor calibration device with good reviews. I use the i1Display by Xrite and i am very pleased with it. Good luck.

What type of monitor are you calibrating? I had a cheap LCD monitor and tried using the Pantone Huey calibrator but didn't like the end result at all. Upgraded to an IPS monitor and the pq is soo much better
