Monitor connections

Ok, dumb question coming up.
I'm looking to buy a new monitor for my pc. My pc has an ATI Firepro v4800 graphics card, that has 1 DV-i and 2 Display port connections. The monitor I'm looking to buy (as seems to be most monitors) has 1 VGA and 2 hdmi connections. So it's it possible to connect the pc and monitor, do I need some sort of adapter?

You need a DVI to HDMI cable.

TBH I thought most good monitors offered displayport connection these days.

A monitor that offers VGA is probably not even worth looking at.

Most decent ones will come with either Display Port or mini Display Port and that's the cable you'll need if it doesn't come in the box.

VGA is the equivalent of cassette tapes in your car, totally out of date.
