Monitor Help Please

Hi All

My "photography business" is going well. But I am always learning something every day! (aren't we all).

I am looking for some guidance with regards to purchasing a monitor for photo editing with a budget of UP TO £300 (I will also be purchasing a calibrator). I know a small budget, but I need to start somewhere. I haven't had a problem with any of the images I have produced to clients so far - but would like to step up from "laptop" editing!

I use Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom.

Hi

Have a look at the Dell ips range. I you should be able to get a 23" in that price range.
 
I bought a viewsonic ips after reading reviews. They're good value.
 
Instead of looking at inches, I would go for pixels and pixel size.


Personally I "hate" the letterbox format 1920 x 1080... definitely prefer 1920 x 1200.

On a 24" this gives pixel size around 0.27 mm, and have found bigger pixels looks ugly.
 
That's a great help - thank you. I am new to this monitor thing, and although comparing certain things to ones suggested, I am obviously missing the best bits for my needs! I think I am going to go with the Asus PA238Q/R :)
 
I got a 27" monitor off eBay when my last one give up the ghost, huge res 2560*1440 and it was just shy of £300 , bargain. Will link you if interested
 
Interested in looking at all options. And thank you, I saw the Asus QR is more aimed for the gamer, having speakers etc. If I go for that, I will stick with the Q!
 
It seems that an "HD" screen of 1920x1080 has been the "standard" screen resolution for quite a while now, but it's not going to be long before 2560x1440 replaces this res as "standard", especially as a lot of phones now seem to offer 1920x1080!

I can remember the days when I brought my first "decent" screen (a mitsubishi "diamondtron" CRT) and it was only 1024x768 and I was amazed by the quality of such a low res screen.
 
I had a Dell 2560x1440, but soon found text was too small... but for editing: phenomenal!

Gaming, not so much... totally brought my graphics card to it's crying knees running Silent Hunter! :D

So for general use, I still hang on to the 1920x1200. Have a Philips 240S btw... great image!
 
Okay. So there's been a delay in purchasing a monitor - but I AM READY! However......I'm sorry to come across as dumb but could someone please tell me what I am better off purchasing - a 1920x1080 or a 1920x1200?!! confused.com
 
1920 x 1200.

I would highly recommend the Dell U2412M. Superb value for money and really sharp image with lovely colours!
