Monitor Recommendations

I currently have two LG IPS234 monitors, but since they're a few years old and looking a little 'dull' compared to my Dell XPS 15 laptop, I've decided it's time to upgrade them.

The problem is, there seems to be a lot of ideal monitors that have great reviews these days, so I've narrowed it down to a few that I'm interested in, any advice, experience or recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

Since I have two on a desk that I'm pretty close to, I don't feel the need to have bigger than 23-25". I wouldn't rule out the perfect monitor if it was slightly bigger. Budget is around £600 for both.

I don't think any reasonable up to 7 year old monitor looks "dull". You should calibrate everything, and I bet you the laptop thing has a worse display.

If you are still buying, newer is almost always better and this is the age of 4K and 5K. Most of what you listed can't be even considered an upgrade with exception of U2515H and to lesser extent U2414H, which have much broader colour gamut. My advice is save the money for 4K display otherwise you are one of the last buyers of the old generation.

Interesting opinion. The higher resolutions of the monitors and the fact that some of them are 100% AdobeRGB was tempting. I've read that some of these montiors are pretty much on-par with 4K. I'm no expert on this so your feedback is appreciated.

I have a Spyder4Pro calibrator and I have probably calibrated both monitors 10+ times and the results from it are absolutely shocking no matter what I try. I've tried in a dark room, with ambient lighting, you name it I've tried it and both of the montiors look COMPLETELY different. Fed up with trying to calibrate now and some of them come pre-calibrated for one. What are the chances of them looking the same, or similar at least?

Thanks

There must be something wrong then, if after calibration the monitors look different. Is the calibration saved to the monitor LUT or does it just make adjustments to the OS output? I'm guessing the latter, and the output is different for each screen.

Cheap monitors won't have that capability. It is all software based.

I have to say both of my very different Dell screens have almost identical colours after calibration, and mbp is there as well. Something must be off in your case. The calibration device must be perfectly flat against the screen or it won't do a good job. I can't imagine what else could go wrong as long as both screens run on standard settings and same sensible brightness.

i recommend the first. i am using it and it is quite good. i have been using it for 1 year and everything is ok. after a lot of version, i find it the best. it is suitable for my dell.
p/s: even i play some big game on computer but it is still ok and runs smoothly.

I'd go for a Dell U2515 for photo editing rather than gaming - NRGIT.biz are good, 3 yr warranty but out of stock at the moment.

I'll try resetting the on-board monitor settings again and see if it helps.

Interesting, I do have one connected via HDMI and one via DVI, if that makes much difference? I only have one HDMI port on my PC so I had to go with that option. Would I be better off upgrading my graphics card and going with 2xHDMI?

I use one of these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lg-3...escreen-super-wide-led-monitor-mo-106-lg.html I ran a two monitor system for years but since getting this a year ago i have no need to, the real estate on this thing is awesome. the colour reproduction is excellent i can't fault it. I hate to work on anything other than it nowadays. mine cost me a lot more than it is now and its worth every penny!

I like having the library on a seperate montior whilst editing on the other, I also find it hugely useful when running a lot of programs to be having half on one screen and half on the other. I do completely get why not everyone's the same, and in all fairness I'd rather not have the black bars in the middle but it feels pretty normal these days!

Thanks, but I'd rather have something more photography-orientated than gaming.

Thanks for the tip. Unsure of what to do after the comments above but I'm going to keep looking. Much appreciated!

Just realised that the Dell U2515H only has HDMI and DP ports. Annoyingly, I have 1xHDMI, 1xDVI and 1xVGA so it's not going to work for dual montiors.

I looked at DVI > DP converters but it seems that I need an active converter, which are about the same price as a graphics card that has 2xHDMI ports (around £150).. Hmm.. Decisions.
