monitors settings

a question on monitors does every one calibrate their monitor to a standard setting ...
The reason i ask this is ,if you post a photo for advice and criticisim surely you are at the mercy of some one else's colour settings on their pc .
I calibrate my monitor to my printer and not a computer program setting ,as this way i get a" what you see is what you get" on a printout .

Not to a standard setting - just follow what Spyder 3 Pro directs me to do and it seems to do the job for me. I've only just started to do this recently and need to re-work my flickr stuff but seeing them on other peoples' computer screens seems ok.
