Guys,

Those of you selling images and needing to really ensure top notch / flawless editing, what monitors are you using and why?

I literally and I mean absolutely cannot edit on anything other than my iMac screen. I have the Dell 26" monitor, it cost about £700 give or take, and it's ****.

Any recommendations for a PC compatable, HUGE and absolutely perfect editing screen?

the NEC, eizo etc lines.

Eye watering prices though. The new NEC line, spectraview, sounds STUNNING. Go to their booths at focus and drop as much cash as you can bear to part with on whatever looks the most beautiful :P

They used to be the same as Dell. In fact I have Dell, and am happy with it, but I only need 95% or so accuracy. The new Apples are all glossy, which is the next worst thing after TN panel.

Did you try calibrating you Dell and the printer combo? I could bet this is possible.

WHat is it about GLossy you don't like? I am doing all my editing for clients on the 27" iMac (2010) calibrated...

1) Reflection of my face
2) Reflections of other people
3) reflection of my desk
4) Reflection of the lights in the room
5) loss of contrast in certain light
6) gimmick
7) causes eye strain
8) an expensive way to ruin a good non-reflective LCD panel
9) I could continue

I am forced to use reflective thing at work, and really really hate it.

I use mines in an unlit basement. I love it :D

I see... Well apple doesn't include unlit basement with it the last time I looked so no good for me then.

I use a Dell U2711 for its size, high resolution and image quality:

Apple do have a version of this display with the same panel but the Dell version offers better image quality and has a much better selection of inputs. For image editing on a laptop I use a Dell Studio XPS 16 with the RGB backlit display, it's the only laptop display I've found to be any use for image editing work.

which exactly dell is it ?
for that price I would suspect it can be Ultrasharp but if you have so many problems with it, it can not ... I still use 2407ultrasharp and I am more then pleased with it, even it has its years now....I consider selling it and go for 3007 ultrasharp...maybe old model but still great
 
personally i use 2x dell 2209wa IPS panels.. both calibrated and theyre perfect.

whats so "****" about your dell and which is it out of interest?

i agree with daugirdas comments about glossy. its the most horrible type of screen in my opinion.
 
Apple certainly do matt screen options for some of their powerbooks, not sure if you can get stand alone screens in that finish. the powerbooks are awesome for picture quality though.

Doesn't give me a stiffy like my iMac's do :D

Seriously though, it feels like it has.a mesh screen making it a wee bit soft and fuzzy. Very hard to describe, it's just ****.

Seems to have less dynamic range too, like a squished colour gamut...
