Monopod accesories

Hi , i have purchased a second hand monopod , with it was the head and a rubber centre piece,now i know what the head is for but i am not sure what purpose the centre piece does,it apears to be some sort of suspension ,it can be taken off i know but i am just curious as to what it would be used for as it is a bit flexible and i would be using it with a 100-400 . I can pretend to know what its for but i don't .

is a thead converter that enables you to fit different heads to the monopod.
is the make of the extra bit manfrotto.

Thanks for the reply, so if the head fits the monopod then i dont need the rubber converter,.yes it's a manfroto

The rubber bit allows a little flexibility so the monopod doesn't need to be completely vertical to keep the horizon level. You'll still be putting some strain on the tripod bush in the camera when tweaking it to get the camera level but it should be OK as long as you don't force it.
