Monopod Head advice required

I use and Canon 7D with a 300 2.8L attached quite a lot handheld and would be interested to hear anyone's advice as to the best type of head to use, I have a Manfrotto Monopod but and thinking of getting a reliable head for it to ease the strain !!
 
I have a Redsnapper RSH-61 that I use on my Gitzo 1542T tripod. I bought it for it's light weight, and it handles a 1D MkIII or gripped 7D with a 70-200 2.8 II OK. I just use a Manfrotto flat plate which you can lock the Manfrotto adaptor in to, it dosen't have a model number on it to be more specific, there about £25. I did use a Manfrotto 234rc monopod head but the bigger lenses rock slightly despite them being locked in place ( sigma 120-300 and Nikon 200-400) . The simple plate is only any good for lenses with a tripod collar if you want to shoot in portrait mode as well as landscape, but the lenses are much more stable and don't move. Hope this makes sense!
 
Mark's suggestion of putting a plate directly on top of the monopod is cheap and stable, although not very flexible. But it works well if you're shooting stuff on the ground - so most sports.

Using a heavy lens on a monopod with a ballhead requires a special technique. You need to hold the lens with one hand, hold the monopod with another hand and tighten the head with the remaining hand.

Tilt heads work really well. The 234RC2 is wonderfully cheap but it is very droopy when used with a heavy lens. I use the RRS head, which is amazingly stable but very expensive. As mentioned in the other post, Custom Brackets do something similar for a much nicer price, but I've never tried it.
