hi All
I am off for a spot of motorsport later this month with my 40D can anyone suggest a good but not too expensive monopod to take with me
Many Thanks

I have the Giottos mml32908 with the Giottos mm7002 ball head.

Its four sections and goes well past my 6' so if the bank is lower in front of you you still donot have to bend down to see through the camera.

I bought it for when I went to the Moto GP earlier this year but ended up not using it.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the info, I see from your pic motorsport is something you obviously do lot of, would you suggest just using good stance instead then
Cheers

I have a Manfrotto (think it's a 680) but use it for my 400mm lens.

Found it too hard to pan with a monopod, even with a ballhead fitted.

Hi Scott

Yes, a good stance, keep an eye on your shutter speed and focal length using, do you have IS on your lens ?

If you can / feel you need to, try to prop / steady yourself against something solid - I sometimes use the concrete stands for the fence around the circuit

If you are panning, practice, practice - you will get the shot you're after, but you will get a lot of rubbish - But hey, thats the fun and beauty of digital.

Here's one from Oulton Park the other week, shot at 1/50 sec

Very pleased with it (the other 6-9 shots went in the bin )

Cheers

Have I buggery just got a Tamron non IS at the mo which is clunky to say the least think it would be wise to stick my hand in my pocket and get decent glass, I know you get what you pay for

I have used my 70-300IS with a lot of success, but the 70-200 F4 was an absolute gem - you do loose 100mm and no IS though, but if you can stretch to one...

You don't need to spend a fortune on lenses, just buy the best you can afford. My daughter who occasionally comes with me (and won't admit she actually enjoys it ) has used my old 28-135 IS lens and her 55-250IS and gets great results. She has tried the 70-300, but finds it too heavy for her.

Not sure if you are aware of this site, but it's a good point of referrance re costs

Thanks for all the replies and advice, I will look at the Giotto, as for lenses I will look around for an IS lenses heard slot of good things about canon IS lenses, f4 would be nice but don't think I can warrant one of those so new into using a DSLR I would end up having all the gear with no idea 

Dont waste your money on an IS lens get a good tripod and mono pod !!!! They never had then back in the 90-80s and some of the best photos were taken then?!!!
