Have been looking at getting a Monopod as of late to replace carrying my clunky Tripod everywhere I go, though all I find are with a screw type fitting but a couple are with a ball type socket. So I was wondering can these sorts of models have the socket and head replaced?

The thing with a monopod is that even decent quality ones, which tend not to come with a built-in head, are pretty cheap. I have a head for my Manfrotto monopod (under £30, nearly new from the classifieds 
) and tbh I don't use it as I don't feel it adds anything to the usability of the ensemble.
