I need to get a monopod, but looking at them it looks like the head (if you can call it that) doesn't move at all.

Are there any options for mounting the camera in portrait, like an adapter or something?

What lens are you shooting with ?

Most lenses you would mount onto a monopod have a collar, and you directly mount the foot of the collar onto the monopod and rotate the camera by loosening it off. I wouldn't mount the camera directly to a monopod (or even to a ballhead on a monopod).

If your lens doesn't have a collar then really, there's probably no need to use a monopod at all unless you have a problem with hand-holding.
You'll most likely find the added stability is outweighed by the added awkwardness.
I tend to only use my monopod when using my gripped 50D and Sigma 150-500 for long periods as that setup weighs a fair old bit.
