More Hovers in Flight.

Recently posted a few shots of Marmalade hovers in flight... well they've been surveying the garden again. I think these ones are the best for photographing as they tend to do less erratic changing in direction when flying or hovering.

Stunning pictures. How do you get them so sharp when they are moving? I can't get them this sharp when they are still

A fast enough shutter speed mostly. 1/200th and faster.

Remember if you go faster on the shutter then you'd need to ensure your flash has hi-speed sync and you may have to open up your aperture or increase ISO.

Also, this particular species of Hover tends to survey its surroundings quite a lot so will often hover in the exact same position for a good 2 or 3 seconds before darting off in a different direction. They are also very curious. :)
 
Lens is a Canon 100mm F2.8L
