Yes
i now have 3 cameras
2 bridge and 1 dslr

since i got the dslr i have been using it on raw most of the time and producing massive files with really good results when saved as jpeg

i feel sorry for the other two and plan to use them again as they arent all that bad and they were ok in the past for forum and postcard size for the album

i take photos of some of the church meetings for the magazine and i look back on the ones on the oly C765 4Mp and find they were sufficient for the printers use and did a decent job in illustrating the events

does everyone who....moves up...leave their past cameras in a drawer or keeps them in use for suitable situations
cheers
geof

Nikon Coolpix 8800 Bridge to D60 kept bridge as second/backup and for my daughter.

Nikon D60 to D300... kept D60 as second/backup and for my daughter, sold bridge to relative.

Bought Fuji S5Pro as backup as D60 feels like a toy compared to D300, sold D60 on classifieds here.

I only keep what I need but I need more than I've got funds for :D

A bit of everything Geoff. I have an Olympus that the family use for travel stuff, I have a Leica that lives in my handbag and I have three film cameras. The 2 D700's are for work and I rarely use them for my own stuff now, much preferring to have a break and use different media, keeps things fresh and interesting. When I changed to the D700s I had to sell the older stuff to partially fund their purchase.

So, yes, I will keep my own personal stuff and continue to use it but recycle work gear through necessity.

I bought a second body not to replace my original body but to compliment it - offering me the 1D for the sports work and 5DII for the event work.

Now the 1D has a long lens permanently attached to the from the the 5D offers me a wider view.

DB

Started with a 400D, then moved on to a 40D but kept the 400D as a second body.

Now have a 5DMkII, 40D becomes second body, 400D ready to go to a new home (although I am tempted to run three bodies just for the hell of it!)

I started on a 400D, then got a 5D and kept the 400 as an occasional second body.

Now I have a 1D, I use the 1D and 5D for work and the 400 sits on a shelf as it's barely worth selling, every now and then my girlfriend has a play with it.

Got a couple of 35mm film bodies that see a bit of use for personal stuff, and I just inherited a Yashica 6x6 which should be fun.

I started with a Canon 10D then upgraded to a 5D after a couple of years. I never bothered disposing of the 10D and it sat in a drawer for over 4 years. The 5D has now developed a small problem and needs attention so I've got the 10D out. I've put a 24-105L lens on it, which it has never seen before and I'm having a good time with it.

I have most of my early digital cameras [and all of my film cameras] and it's good to give them a spin once in a while.

D1x donated to my Dad. All other cameras sold to fund upgrades.

Kept most of my old film cameras for sentimental reasons and for the fact that apart from the Leica, they're worth next to nothing...lol

I had two, Nikon and Sony. Sold the Sony not long after I upgraded to my Nikon.
I do miss having two and will be getting another Nikon after christmas to save lens changes.

Mostly sold to fund upgrades, but I have an old d80 around that I'm going to get converted to IR, and a couple of film bodies still knocking around

F2 and FM from my film days - the F2 is still my favourite camera.

30D, Minolta 7i and Canon A640 digitals. My daughter borrowed the Canon a couple of years ago, and it doesn't look as if I'll get it back, so I'm in the market for a replacement. I can't see the DSLR getting much use after that.

Canon 20D for digital my first DSLR, then since bought a Pentax ESII 35mm which normally has an 'arty' film in it, currently Adox ISO25 which I have a range of prime lenses for (also work on my 20D) and I use for fun photography when I have plenty of time. My latest purchase is an EOS-3 which uses the same AF lenses as the 20D so nice crossover of kit there and generally has a fast film in ISO400, both usually B&W as IMHO the digital does colour better (when I'm processing the film for sure) and the film cameras have better resolution and nicer rendition of B&W.

All get used fairly regularly.

I try not to hang on to old cameras, but sometimes I fail.

Kept my original Leicas and my Alpa stuff for years but never used them so when prices rose, they got sold.

Sold my Hassie stuff to fund the Rollei 6008AF outfit which gets used infrequently for studio work.

Kept my original Kodak DCS pro when I bought my D3 and D3x bodies but that will be going soon.

Now getting tempted by old cine cameras which are sooooo cheap to buy. Original Bolex and Leicina ones are very tempting (to go alongside my original Leicina I still have)

I have a drawer full of old cameras, old phones whatever. I can never bring myself to throw them away if they still work they may have a use in the future I have given a few of the cameras away to kids who wanted a camera. Selling old stuff never appeals as its old there are better things out there, people will never want my old tat runs through my head so it goes in a drawer.

I do still occasionally go back to the older kit, useful in situations when the dslr's cant get in or are too bulky.

Horses for courses. I use my main body for most things, my older D70 for tele work (and if I reckon it may get claggy) and have a compact that's waterproof down to 10metres for snorkelling with. I have a couple of other compacts as well, an elderly CP3100 which my wife uses and a Minox which looks like a toy so is very unobtrusive. I'm hoping my bridge (Minolta DiMage 5) turns up soon so I can pack it off to Julian (Wheels) for his stroke group photoclub to use.

I did sell on my D200 to help fund the D700 but still have my old film bodies in the cupboard in case I ever want to play that game again. Originally kept them so I had FF capability and they're now not worth selling - dealer prices are around £40 - £75 for them so I wouldn't expect much more than £50 for the pair as a trade in deal.

D700 (or LX-3) for most things, my old D70 is now on permanent loan to my niece whose doing a photography A-level.

I've got a few film cameras I use by way of a change, a Nikon F100 which is like a film D700 and uses all the same lenses, and an F80 that I got for no other reason than it was too cheap to resist (£30!!!!), and goes with me to some of the more risky / less salubrious places I visit. I've also got a Nikon FM somewhere......

I have an EOS 7D for anything travelling at over two hundred kts and a Pentax K20D for slower things.

....Kept most of my old film cameras for sentimental reasons and for the fact that apart from the Leica, they're worth next to nothing...lol

Same here. Two D2x bodies serve me well. I have all my old Polaroid, which are gathering dust but are a good talking point, and my old Pentax MX only works at 1/60th so is probably better suited to being a doorstop. Got an EOS 300 that probably still works fine but film is as much use to me these days as a chocolate fireguard....

Minolta 7000 sold <20 yr gap> Nikon D60 - bought Nikon D300 - sold Nikon D60 it to buy Sigma 70-200 f2.8.

Well I've only got:

Olympus P&S
Panasonic FZ8 (Bridge)
Nikon D60

and I'm not getting rid of them any time soon - the P&S is waterproof / shockproof etc so is great on holidays / nights out. I use my D60 predominantly but tend to take the Panny on holiday or when it isn't really sensible to take the SLR. On days out when I'm using the D60 my OH now uses the bridge camera. The bridge also works really well with my Raynox close up lenses. They all get used regularly so I wouldn't want to part with them.

The only problem is that now my OH has been using the bridge he is not overkeen on his Olympus P&S so we tend to fight over it a bit if I havn't got the D60 with me...

I've now bought him a little HD camcorder in the hope that he will prefer than to my beloved panny FZ8 :D

I first got into digital a while ago and bought a second hand Olympus E20 then after a bit I upgraded to a E3. Yes every now and again I use the E20.

However I also have 3 medium format film cameras and 9 or 10 other 35mm SLR cameras all of which do get used as the year goes on.

Canon Ixus 430 (still use it for Ebay photos)
Pentax K10D
Just bought Pentax K-5

Now got my eye on a Canon G12.

Although the K-5 is weather resistant I still use the K10D if it remotely looks like rain as I don't want to chance it getting wet because it cost an arm and a leg

almost snap

olympus C765
pana FZ7
olympus e-420 dslr

Interesting.....I have a 500D, 400D, 350D and Fujifilm S1000
500D for the pukka stuff, 400D to use a second lens without swapping in the field, 350D to throw in the bag and the S1000 if I'm out drinking!

Panasonic FZ18 Bridge Camera sold to fund upgrade to Canon 400D
Canon 400D sold to fund upgrade to Canon 40D
Canon 40D sold to fund upgrade to Canon 5DI
Canon 1DII bought by selling something else
Panasonic LX3 bought for the, ahem, "need" for a pocketable camera
Canon G5 IR converted bought here a couple of weeks ago and working hard.

So, I have no plans to upgrade the 1DII, I think I'll upgrade the 5DI to 5DII, probably in the next 12 months. The LX3 will no doubt either towards the 5D upgrade or when I get the feeling that it's underused. (Mind you, it's actually no more underused than any of my EOS lenses). The G5 IR? Ithink I'll want a full12 months with it before I feel that I've done all the IR that I want to.

I sold my bridge camera on eBay (Panasonic FZ-8) when I bought my first dSLR thinking I'd never use it and regret it massively.

With my smallest combo being a 1D and 35mm prime it's just to big and heavy to throw in a pocket or backpack to bring along on a road trip at work.

If I saw a FZ-8 for £50 I'd probably get one again but I can't see myself buying a new expensive compact/bridge now - as much as I'd like to have one.

got my Fz7 for £55 +pp on ebay...good place to look again

although 50 for a fz8 may not be possible just now

Hmm, might keep my eye out again for one. An FZ7 would be fine too. The image quality is really good from those cameras.

I have loads of cameras, more than you could shake a stick at, and they all serve their own purposes. Heavy ones, tough ones, light ones, small ones, longer lens camera, wider lens camera, film, digital etc...

My second camera is a Panasonic FT1 - not a match for the 500D in terms of quality, but it's waterproof, dustproof, and shock-proof so will go everywhere i'm too scared to take my DSLR - seems like a good combination :)

David

i use my bridge camera when on holiday and also take in my works van and my good dslr all the other time

My second camera is a 350D, rarely use it and it's not worth selling so it's a back up to the 40D if that ever keeled over and died spectacularly at an event! I also have a little Fuji compact for point and shoot stuff :)

Mostly sold to fund new stuff. P+S given to Daughter, 300D given to Son in Law. Still got Oly OM10 which never gets any use and my D700's Can't help thinking I should get another P+S but my iPhone does a good enough job!

In the Pro world cameras are a tool - if a better tool comes along and it makes affordable sense to buy it then you buy it, selling older tools to fun the purchase just makes financial sense

In the amateur world it's daft to 'upgrade' from something that does the job perfectly well. My wee Nikon - something - compact has 6mp and is ace, the fact that the newer version of it has 10mp and a zillion new features and costs LESS is of no relevance as 'upgrading' is simply a waste of money

You are Ken Rockwell, have a D40 and I claim my £10! :D

I can't understand why someone would buy a good quality DSLR and NOT take it on holiday!

I would hate it if my only good shots were ones I had take on local day trips in the UK yet all the stunning scenery & cityscapes I see abroad were all taken with a point & shoot.

While there is sense in this there is also the 'beer' thought to factor in...

The 'best' capture may well be a Hassy & 80mp back, but its too bit so is left at home

Next best is the DSLR and 10-200mm lens, or some sort, but its still often too big and left at home or in the flat on hols

Best for hols may well be the small, light 6-10mp compact - as - any camera you have to hand when you need it is the BEST one for the shot

If you can master it (even with beer focus issues) then great holiday shots may result :D

Im not a pro, never want to be a pro. I can understand that in the business a good tool is essential. Mostly, however, we get called into the more MP's is better. Oh, no it isn't. I use my E510 and I get sharp, and I do mean sharp. And I get big enough for great prints. I know very well why pro's buy their full frame sensors and MF digitals. I understand that. But mostly, and I do mean mostly, I understand that some enthusiasts will buy and use pro equipment, knowing it to be hard wearing and up to the stresses and strains etc, but mostly any DSLR giving around 10mp with good glass will make someone proud one day, if not today.

Dear Newbie, if you read this, you don't NEED pro kit. You NEED experience and knowledge. Don't buy 18mp because you think its the best. It's not. Not for you ;)

By the way I still keep and use my 510, my olympus 3mp compact, my 4 film SLR's, my 2 TLR film cameras and my favourite liottle 35mm compact :)
