I hope this does not clash with any other thread, although I did do a quick search to see if there were any.

Many of us photographers use google maps or google earth to look over potential photography locations, or at least i know I usually do :D

I was looking at google maps today in my browser and realized that there seemed to be an awful lot of water showing up on the maps. It appears that google maps now shows most lakes, ponds and streams on the maps, many more than I ever remember it doing.

A brief search found this LINK which states that google has made changes to its UK mapping systems, including more water bodies being listed/mapped and more comprehensive local park coverage. Could this be the reason google earth stopped working for many people recently?

Not only good news for photographers seeking water landscape locations, but quite beneficial to kayaker's looking for a quiet put in spot in a tributary ;)

Yes I think the changes/updates have probably been the causes of older downloads of Google Earth not working .......If like me, you find yourself having to download a new version then don't show yourself up like I did by asking where to find it.........just go here:
