I've made a few changes to my website and would like some feedback please :)

http://www.trlphoto.co.uk

I'm tempted to remove the online store and just have a price list of the various products that I would like to evntually sell.

My original thinking behind the online store, would be so I could sell items online, but I'm not sure if that route works best.

Does IE7 & IE8 display the active X control box? If it does, I'm wondering if it is a bad idea to include the jquery that runs the colourbox (what you see the store opening in). This may put people off the site.

Edit:

I have now changed the design of the website.

I don't see the point in having the stor open up in a lightbox style window looking as if it is hosted on another website - why not keep it in-fitting with the rest of the site?

It has a kind of template look about it and the main thing that strikes me is that there doesn't seem to be any "showing off" of your work going on. People usually land on the home page and you have a few seconds to get their interest - get a couple of your best photographs on there. The picture of the car doesn't come across as though it's aan example of one of your photos, but more like a gimmick stockphoto because of the rollover change and the lack of a frame.

You have used an h3 for your title - change it to an h1 and use a good keyword rich title for SEO purposes and to say what you do.

White text (#ffffff) on black backgrounds (#000000) is really hard on the eyes. Try changing the white to a slightly more off-white.

Hope that helps

Thanks, I'm not sure if I should re-design it completely and change the colour scheme.

Both images on the homepage are my own work, but I can see what you mean with it looking stock.

Cheers,

T.

I would remove the info on your homepage and put them on an "about" tab.

Alternatively, the paragraph offering your services under the car could be put on the contact page.

Also, "You can view my Portfolio, by visiting my Portfolio page. Click here." is not necessary. The visitor will automatically go on your porfolio page if interested.

when I hit the store button my feeling was that I had been diverted onto another site, partly because of the way it opened and partly because of the sharp contract in colours and style.

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function MM_swapImgRestore() { //v3.0
var i,x,a=document.MM_sr; for(i=0;a&&i<a.length&&(x=a)&&x.oSrc;i++) x.src=x.oSrc;
}
function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0
var d=document; if(d.images){ if(!d.MM_p) d.MM_p=new Array();
var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length; i++)
if (a.indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a;}}
}

function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {
d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);}
if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for (i=0;!x&&i<d.forms.length;i++) x=d.forms[n];
for(i=0;!x&&d.layers&&i<d.layers.length;i++) x=MM_findObj(n,d.layers.document);
if(!x && d.getElementById) x=d.getElementById(n); return x;
}

function MM_swapImage() { //v3.0
var i,j=0,x,a=MM_swapImage.arguments; document.MM_sr=new Array; for(i=0;i<(a.length-2);i+=3)
if ((x=MM_findObj(a))!=null){document.MM_sr[j++]=x; if(!x.oSrc) x.oSrc=x.src; x.src=a[i+2];}
}
//-->
</script>

This won't work if the user has Javascript disabled. These rollovers can be executed with CSS. :)

<div id="container">
<div id="core_header">
</div>
<div id="core_container">
<div id="core_container2">

<div id="core_left">
<div id="navcontainer">

Seems excessive. I wouldn't be surprised if you could narrow this down to one wrapper / container with the elements aligned accordingly. :)

Agree with this and also with flickers comments re showcasing your images.

Thanks for the feedback.

The store is hosted on another site owned by myself, but I think I will make this open up in a new window, rather than the colorbox, going to revamp the store too I think. Might even upgrade my package and try gallery2 again, or wait until gallery3 is released properlly (currently only the beta version out).

On the new layout above, I have one of my best photographs on the homepage, I might change this so it randomly generates one on every visit, but unsure.

T :).

My comment is if you are advertising being a photographer, thne you should have more than 1 photo on the home page, or perhaps have the picture rotating or reloading each time the page is loaded. Also if you are specialising in cars, then I would change the landscape picture across the top for something more energetic and relevant.

Instantly 100 times better, looks much more professional.
However.... at the top on the right, you need a space somewhere in your mobile number so it's easier to read and the email address above it really should be a clickable bit of text.

We attended the Scottish Modified Show which was held at ingliston in Edinburgh. It was a great and busy day. We are currently in the process of working through the images. They will be uploaded to the website within the next few days.

Best remove this as it does not do your credibility much good!

Thanks, it is just a image, but I can change this to text :thumbs:.

second link is much better than the first.. the first website looks like it was 6-7 years ago.

Thanks, and I agree now lol.

The photos were updated and uploaded but it was never linked. Forgot to update this, as it was originally quite hard to find :bonk:. Thanks for bringing this up though. I will make sure it is updated.
