Got neoprene camo on my 100-400. Added weather resistance and also stops the lens getting scratched and dinged when resting on walls or whatever. Also feels nice to hold for long periods as it has a bit of softness rather than hard plastic.

Neoprene covers are a much better option - they can protect the lens- the one I have on my 200-600mm is 5mm thick much nicer feel to it
Not some cheap sticker - I do suggest for tripod legs they would, suffice but not for a lens- it will have residue when removed which is not good
