I've had this guy flying around my house for several days now, but I've not been able to get a decent photo.
Looking at various nature sites suggests that this may be a Tiger moth.
It's about 30-35mm from nose to tail.
The Jersey Tiger Moth and caterpillar (Euplagia quadipunctaria) - photographs and life cycle information of this strikingly attractive day flying Tiger Moth and boldly marked caterpillar.
Yep Jersey tiger. It's rare to see any other sort of tiger moth now, at least where I am. They're day flying so you can safely put it outside if you can catch it. Funnily enough I've had my first sightings of them this year over the weekend.
Thanks to all.
Confirms what I saw on a couple of websites.
I've not been able to aprehend it - a bit elusive, and cannot seem to get a decent photo.
It may be "day flying" but it only seems to move at night, every morning it's in a different location.
I understood these are not very common at the moment - must be the warm weather!
