Motherboard replacement under Win 7

Just wondering if after replacing the motherboard with a different brand to the one I have, should I really do a fresh install :shrug: or try a repair?

if it was me id do a fresh install.

even with a replacement same make and model board (albeit a slightly different revision with an extra sata port) i had no end of blue screen and crashing issues.

Personally I'd only do a fresh install if you have issues. It's not that I don't trust Neil's judgement but there's no point doing a fresh install right off the bat, imo, as you may have no issues, and will save yourself some time. If you do have issues and find you need to reinstall, well no harm done, as you would have anyway.

I've transplanted motherboards of the same make and had no issues, luckily, so far.
 
true it is possible to get away with it, however if theyre different makes/models then it gets a little trickier getting them to boot with the wrong drivers loaded.

windows 7 isnt the slowest install in the world, you have to judge which would be quicker.. doing the install or trying to get the board to work without one.
 
or getting lucky and it "just working"... or does that only work with Apple motherboards?

Ps. it's not the install of Windows that takes time for me... but the faffing about afterwards. I'm a perrrfectionist.
 
You could always backup your drive with Acronis, change your board, then use universal restore to restore it.

I'll second that, I always have an Acronis back up image on hand just in case the PC doesn't boot.

No, when you use the universal restore, it asks for the new chipset drivers while installing.
 
Cheers guy`s, so is Acronis a free bit of software or no? I can only see a trial version at the moment.
 
Not free but, you can get it for about £25 if you look around, well worth it for the peace of mind and avoiding hassle I think.
