Hi all,

apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in :thinking:

I am looking for some general advice on motion activated triggers. I have a Canon 600D and want some kind of motion trigger to take photos at night.

We have ducks in the garden and at random times over night something is spooking them quiet badly (probably just cats) but by the time I get out what ever it is has gone. So was hoping to find a way to trigger the camera when something moves near the duck coop.

Has anyone got any experience with this? and is so what is a cheap / effective way of doing it?

Thanks, looks like it could be the job nicely. I could use the mobile version and just grab a phone from work but not sure it'd work in low light very well.

Interesting I see it is Arduino based so might have a play with knocking something up myself as well
 
You could install magic lantern onto the camera for free and use the motion detection on that maybe?
 
Could be worth a try. I'd be worried about bricking the camera though :)
 
I understand your worries but it really is a very simple installation. I was a bit worried about bricking it as my camera was 3 days old when I did it but ML is not new firmware that writes over the Canon firmware, it runs along side, on the memory card.

Goes something like this (please read proper instructions)

Download Zip file
Unzip files
Put said files onto the memory card
Go to upgrade firmware in the camera
Wait a few seconds to see the success message
Turn camera off then voila, all done

If you can do that you can put it on your camera.

Well,

I popped it on the camera and seems to work ok. Will give the motion capture a try but I guess I need to see how it performs in low light :)
 
I think there are a couple of modes you can use focus trap and one where it assess the balance of the shot for changes.
