Motorbikes

Could be tempted by one of those but the local dealer's salesman is (IME) a cock, so I'll stick with the Triumphs.

About 2 miles away!

Annoyingly, it's a local(ish - 40 or so miles away) bike show today. The annoyance is that it's also the Great West Run which would add about 20 miles each way to the trip and send us up a notoriously dangerous road on a notoriously dangerous weekend.

gorgeous in the yorkshire dales today...first time this year in my mesh jacket with just a tshirt underneath...oh the joys of riding in the sun and the heat

I've never tried a mesh jacket (not even sure I've seen one in the flesh)
What have you got and what should I look at if I want to get one?
Ant advice much appreciated!

Many moons ago I had a full mesh jacket by a company called fieldsheer, wasn't the best style jacket but it was a godsend in summer. It had full armour but I always questioned the abrasion resistance.

I currently have the aplinestars Bogota jacket which works for all seasons, in the summer you can unzip the chest panels, arms and upper back to reveal mesh. Whilst it's not as cool as the fieldsheer I used to have it goes some way to battling the heat, and I feel more confident in the quality. I also have the alpinestars mesh trousers, again not perfect but the help. Of course, I'm never going to get the full benefit as my bike has such good wind/weather protection.

Does your nearest Trago have a Trago Two Wheels shop in/around it? They stock a couple of mesh jackets (or, at lest, the Newton Abbot site does!)

Ideal for relatively slow rides but even a hot day can cool down a LOT at 70 MPH (yeronner!) Most contain armour these days but some leave the back protector pocket empty.

Make sure you can adjust the fit enough to keep any armour in place should the slide happen.

ive got a RST S-1, it works really well, at keeping you cool, got armour in the arms/shoulder but not the back, probably to help with cooling as there is a large mesh area there, but i stick a D30 back protector in, id rather be a boit hotter and have the protection than the other way round, i use a camel back in warm weather too so that adds to the mesh getting blocked so to speak, again the benefits of being able to drink on the go outway the downsides.

i went to superbike shop in preston and tried a few on when i was buying mine, the fact ive got some RST leather trousers and i can zip them together helped my decision, deffo recomended for riding in hot weather, makes it so much more comfortable, my mate was stewing and i was lovely, il be out on wednesday for another go

Thank you for your replies.
Obviously I need to try a few on!
Keeping cool while keeping safe is so important (I've had over 20 operations following a not-my-fault bike smash) so I don't ride without decent protection, which makes summer rides a test of endurance...

The wind rider seat covers help to keep the nether regions cooler, I just wish the material was grippier so you didn’t slide around so much. I guess it’d be fine with leather trousers, but with textile trousers you do tend to slide forward under braking, although this could be bike dependant too.

Under heavy braking I find my buttock cheeks grip most things pretty well, although I'm not sure if you wanted to know that.
