After looking at a few motorsport websites this morning, i thought it might be a good idea to make a thread where we can put links to motorsport photographers websites.

Somewhere for those of us who want to improve to get some inspiration and ideas from. (y)

I am not too sure if this will go against the site rules or not, it would be a shame if it is because i think this could come in handy for any aspiring motorsport photographers on here.

Ill start with the 2 that contribute a lot to the forum and that are easy to find on here anyway.

xynamic.com - Gary's site

&

blzeebub.com - desantnik

I was asked recently if I had a website - I don't - so I'm looking at getting something going, probably powered by WordPress. This sort of thread will be handy to get ideas from.

Wordpress is really nice/easy to use, and with a bit of effort it doesn't need to look like a Wordpress site (unlike mine!)

I spent ages on mine when I was recovering from an illness earlier this year, slipped behind now though...

The guides have proved to be hugely popular so it's been good to put them in one place, but it's a pain to keep up to date with events, real life keeps getting in the way. It's not used to promote myself or anything like that though so not a big deal.

Up until a couple of weeks ago I would have sung the praises of smugmug but after their backwards 'upgrade' with more bugs than a buggy thing I jumped ship to Zenfolio - very easy to use and set up even for someone like me.

Mine - work in progress here: davidstallardphotography.com and yes there is more than 'just' motorsport / petrol head - but that's because I like it

I think I'm going to look into Zenfolio.

Due to the conditions on most motorsport tickets, I can't sell any photos I take at the events. Can you set it up so the "Buy" link only appears with certain galleries?

Yes mate if you look at mine the only gallery with picture for sale is the landscape. I do the music side and the motorsport side for me 2 big things in my life.

It's very user friendly and i believe you can have a 14 days trial and probably get a discount code too.

You can enable or disable selling on a per-gallery or even per-image basis.

Personally I keep stuff I can't sell off my website entirely to avoid confusion - both from prospective buyers who I'd have to turn down and from people who might be looking to enforce the entry terms. I use Flickr for stuff I'm not selling.

Webs (formerly Freewebs) is really easy to use.
I've been using it since 2008 without any real problems.
I'm far from a technolgical genius and if a Luddite like me can use it and not stuff it up, I'd be relatively sure that anybody else can.
There's probably things I could to to improve it, but it seems to be doing what I need it to so I'm not bothered.

That's cracking, I know it's a template but it looks spot on

Thanks, personally I believe Wordpress has made web design simple enough to rule out a bad website especially if you don't require any complex functionality. With all the plugins and support you can pretty much do anything with only rudimentary knowledge.

I need to get writing and shooting that's the hardest part :D lol my poor sense of humour also keeps coming out

I'm working on something similar, the hardest part is choosing what template to use!

ThemeForrest is a great resource, if you can make sure your template has good support this is usually indicated by the fact that the creator is identified as an elite author. There is a huge array of designs, just take into account load times etc

Hi There, guys,

I'm new to the site but was interested in what you guys were saying about your own website. I do a lot of 2 wheel sport, both bikes and motorbikes and wanted to create a website as I get asked for it a lot but to date have always resisted going down that road. What are the costs involved? How much space do you need to buy( or is it based on an annual fee?)

there are loads of different hosting packages, it depends what you want from a site. If its just a simple portfolio, then you don't need much space, but it you're going to have galleries from each event you'll need something bigger.

From £ 5 to £ 100+ per month.

I have standard hosting with TSO host for £2.99 a month, domain is about a fiver for 2 years.

I just created my website a few days ago. I have a few changes to make but overall i am pretty happy with it. Going to register a proper domain name in a couple of days when i have the spare cash to pay for the full year. Some of my older work on there at the mo as I have only been doing this 6 months and need a bigger portfolio but its a start!

Check it out let me know what you think:

I can recommend Freeola for domain registration and hosting if it helps?

Hello fellow Motorsport fanatics,

I set a website up using Smugmug, to be honest I asked around a lot & it was probably 50/50 between them & Zenfolio, I have had it running about 6 weeks now and am getting a lot if hits on it (I added a visitor counter)

I am on the Portfolio scheme, it was around £100 but if you look around you can get 20% off so it worked out quite good. I think I can get a discount voucher too so if anyone wants to try I will work out how to do it !

Hope this helps, feel free to have a look here http://www.colinportimages.co.uk

If I can do it anyone can :)

I use Zenfolio for mine http://www.jackflashphotography.co.uk/ . There's nothing glamorous on there, I only really do clubman level events.

I need to give the site an overhaul for this season, they've recently added more layout options that I need to play with.

My website is www.petetaylor.org.uk and is hosted by clikpic, I've had it for a few years and, to be honest, I'm beginning to think that their format is perhaps a bit dated now. I have to reduce the size of the images (I use full-frame Nikon) in order to post them and the size of image on each page is not very large and of reduced quality.
It will be a real pain if I have to go to another provider as I'll need new business cards and stationery and I'll have to let a zillion contacts know that I've moved.

I would appreciate any feedback from a Motor-Sports viewpoint; although M-S is only part of what I do, the comments would be valid for the other stuff too.

I don't post much on my own site - it probably hasn't been updated properly in over 12 months.

However you can see my photography, along with many other awesome photographers, on the website I shoot for - http://www.crankandpiston.com/articles/on-the-track/
