Yes
I have looked but i cannot find anything to help, ive just bought a 70-200 and a monopod, ready for some motorsport photography, id prefer to use the tripod mount ring thing but i looked on warehouseexpress and it said it was £125... i know people say "you pay for what you get" but is it really worth that or are £15 ebay ones good enough for the job?

ive also got a chance to get a second hand one, buy it now for £60... but i still think that is too much for a ring to mount my lens to a monopod...

Think I would get the cheap one (as much as it would annoy me to not have genuine) :)

Canon just rips it's customers off with accessories, lens hoods are just the same, just about every lens maker includes one except Canon :annoyed:

well this one is what im looking at buying, failing finding a genuine one for a reasonable price. if that changes anyones opinion?

What 70-200 is it? Surprised you didn't get one with the lens. Was it 2nd hand?

If it isn't a really heavy lens you could look at mounting your camera to the monopod with something like this Manfrotto 234RC, giving you portrait / landscape orientation just like a ring on the lens.

Does it not come as standard on the lens? It would with a Nikon!!!!

first they'd have to start making a 70-200 f4 lens to supply it with ;)

I guess that if Canon did supply it with one the price of the lens would go up and I (like many others I suspect) don't plan on using mine on tripod so it would just end up sitting in the box! If I do decide I need one I'd definitely go for a cheap ebay job rather than the genuine article.

My friend has a nikon and he's always complaining about something with it, he likes my canon stuff ;)

It is the canon 70-200 F/4 L and i bought it second hand, but you dont get the mount with it when you buy it new, i dont think anyway.

and the only thing about mounting the camera straight to it is i will probably be carrying it on the tripod all day and its a lot lighter than the lens, i dont know if it will break the mount or anything like that, im not too interested in portrait right now, ill probably get a head for it later on.

Ive got the crumpler neck strap but i was in a car accident last year and its never really sorted, even after physio, so i cant have my camera round my neck for very long at all, its very annoying, thats one of the reasons i bought the monopod. I think ill try the ebay one out.

If you're patient you can find genuine ones on fleabay at reasonable prices, e.g. c£25.

They are few & far between mind & I've only seen two listed in the last three months - luckily I managed to snaffle one of them!

70-200 f4 isn't a heavy lens, so you could get a nice comfy neckstrap and go without a monopod. If you had a heavier lens a monopod would become more sensible.

I've got the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 & never bother with a monopod, it's just more weight to carry :D

Get a nice TPF neckstrap, it improves the quality of your shots & makes you more attractive ;)

The 70-200 f4 L is not supplied new with a tripod ring as noted above. I bought one from Amazon, here.

TBH i hardly ever use a tripod/ monopod with it as it is light. But the OP has noted that due to a accident their neck is not as strong as once was. So i would recommend that one.

I also got a a grip on my 400d, and i have got the hand strap for it. Makes one handed carry of the camera a bit more easier. Obviously you need a grip for that, but worth remembering if you do have one.

One last thing. I did see a tog out with a very long neck strap once, they used it as a cross body strap though to avoid dragging on their neck. Might be worth investigating further.

bit of a thread revival but i was thinking about the hand strap option and found this one... the only thing is, id like the attatch a neck strap quickly and take if off just as quick

Looking at the instruction pictures, i think it will fit on my 450D with the grip and it also has an extra bit to attach a neck strap as well, i looked at the optech strap connectors but i dont know which ones i would need... any more help would be appreciated
