No
A couple of days ago I found about and installed iPlayer on the Wii.
It's actually very good and means I can now watch iPlayer on the TV, result especially with BBC putting Heroes on Saturday night :bang:

Now this has got me thinking, if the Wi can access video over the net, surely it can access video files on my iMac, or if that's too tricky my network hard drive.

Does anybody know of a Wii application that can do this? I'm googling it without any luck at the moment, so I guess either no, or it's little known.

I think there is, but it is "Home Brewed". Therefore you would have to exploit your Wii to get the applicationg working. There are website that can tell you how to do this, but there is obviously the risk of bricking your machine going down that route.

Don't know if it could be done, but the quality of picture from Wii to the TV isn't great. You could pick up a used Xbox 360 for about £50 (without HDD)and use that to stream music and video, and still get a very good picture output.

Ah, so the warning that comes up when you do a firmware update may take effect and kill my Wii. Not worth the risk thanks

iPlayer picture is very good here, on par with freesat, although I don't have a HD tv so maybe I'd see a difference if I upgraded.
Not really looking to spend any money, I can burn a disc, just thought this would be easier and more techy  Thanks for the input though :)

yeah the iPlayer picture looks pretty blocky on my HDTV (50" plasma) but thats mainly down to it being a composite connection.

Sorry but putting homebrew on your Wii will not brick it. I have it on mine and its incredibly simple to do. You then have to add other programs to play DVD's etc.

Although I am yet to start adding other apps to it purely because I homebrew'd it to play my movies from my portable HDD but I fixed the RROD on my 360 so didn't need too.

On a side note, probably best not to talk about it here because its rather dodgy :D

I know it is simple to do, i myself use my wii to stream media to a small tv in my bedroom. However It is worth pointing out that if it not done correctly you can / will brick your machine.

So do you stream it from your computers hard drive? Or a networked drive?
If so what's the correct way to do it?

google orb, I use it to stream to the wii (watching cassablanca on it atm) and several laptops in and outside the home network as well as my phone

It says PC, but clicked the download link and there is a mac version on there.
Is the free Wii browser on the Wii shop channel? Used that for the first time to install iPlayer.

Just to let people know, I've installed orb and the Wii browser which is free off the Wii shop channel. It works, but it seems that my content is going on to the net and coming back off the net, rather than just using my network.

The video is a little jumpy, possibly the format is not optimised for viewing through a web browser, but thanks for the help I'm much further along than I even knew was possible and orb in itself looks to be very useful.

you could just get an hdmi cable and connect your mac to the tv (assuming its possible/realistic with your particular mac)

i connect my macbook pro to the tv with an hdmi cable and the headphone socket. works brilliantly for watching blu ray hd movies

The TV aint the latest  so there is no HDMI connection, just scart and RCA's.
There is a doorway between the mac and TV with laminated floor and the mac will probably move to another room when the weather changes.

ahh sorry :)
i miss read another post about it being a plasma tv, but i think someone else posted that

No need to be sorry mate, any suggestions welcome
It's acceptable at the moment though with orb and the Wii browser, could be better though.
