at the moment i am using a sony a200 dslr with a sigma 70-300mm lens.my main interest is aerial photography and have looked into buying a larger lens.while the a200 is ok i would be looking to change it later on and am thinking about moving to canon/nikon in the future.would i better changing brand instead of purchasing a bigger lens?.i purchased the sony when i was under a budget and it was the best i could afford at the time and was a good deal.i think i should have bought a second hand canon or nikon though.i`m now thinking of selling the sony with the two lenses.hope this makes sense

I think it all comes down to how much your kit is worth now, what your budget is to upgrade/change brands and what do you want/need/lust after.

Not sure about the requirements of aerial photography (I'm assuming you shoot the earth from a plane, helicopter or balloon?) but if your camera system is holding you back it's easiest to change now before you're heavily invested into it.

What are the key features you need in a camera + lens combo?

tbh you won't see a difference in changing, the lens you mention is budget and not that good for aerial photography, if you upgrade the lens to a 70-300mm sony G SSM you will notice a huge difference.
